Hello fellow Dashboarders!

For the past couple of nights I've been working out a design for a metronome that I am *very* excitred about. But, I don't even have the *slightest* idea of where/how etc. to program it. So, I turn to those who have an adventurous spirit to bring this idea to life! A brief explanation of how it will (ideally!) work:

A visual and audio metronome:

When the Start button is pressed, metronome starts and two things happen: the display blinks in time to the beat and the clicking sound begins. Users can choose a preset on the left, or use the tempo arrows to the right of the display. Also, volume can be adjusted (if possible.) (I still need a volume icon, probably in the lower left corner.)

Actually, I should mention that I am a good CSS and HTML coder, but I've taken JavaScript classes, read books and I just get so confused! So, hopefully this image will display properly, but I will give a url as well.

In case that doesn't load, the URL:

Okay, great! I'm looking forward to some replies and any constructive critisicm/feedback is most certainly welcome... sorry for the long post!

Mate, that looks like a great idea.

I haven't used a metronome in quite a while (I'm a grade 8 drummer, dontcherknow) but this looks very useful.

I'd be happy to lend a hand with it

Hi Chris,

Happy to hear you're interested. I'd like to simplifiy the design; just the "LED" on the front, a stop start button and tempo up/down buttons. I think the presets are too much. I'll work on it starting tom'w and will probably progress pretty quickly. Is this the type of project where JavaScript would be used? I wonder because I've been hunting around and it seems very hard to control audio via javascript. Well, anyway, I'm gonna get hackin' on the graphics and let's stay in touch. Looking forward to it: up:

Oh no. This is perfectly suited for JS. You could do it in flash or something too, but the QuickTime plugin is scriptable with JS.

Hi Chris,

Ok, that is very cool. The nice thing about JS is that I'm a novice at coding, but I can read it and usually grasp what I am seeing. Thanks, and TTYS.

Hi all,

I am redesigning the metronome graphic on again, to adhere closer to the "Main Interface Design" in the developer documents. Am I allowed to make a reference to those people... edit my post if I can't! Be in touch soon

I, too, would find this useful to have at my fingertips. Nice design!

Lucky you then, Jer. Smile

I wrote this a few weeks back, although it's far from complete. It's just using the quicktime plugin to play the beep at whatever interval you choose. You can change the bpm on the fly etc.

Now, since it's just using the quicktime plugin and calling it via javascript at certain intervals from a timeout, there's no guarantee it will be exactly right. e.g. if your processor is bogged down 120bpm might come out as 1bpm... In order to get this right I'd have to take it out of just web technologies and probs into a plugin using some funky stuff.

Nice to see you back and active mate. Hope the merger works well Smile
