Part of the skin is embedded in the Quartz portion of the code. This means a each new skin is a new quartz module. The skin doesn't just sit under the whole thing. Not impossible at all. I just want to have everything else sussed before creating skins. |

I saw that piece when I opened the .qtz file in Quartz Composer. But can't the skin be transparent and go over that piece, and have each skin be the same in that small overlap area? Or could you take that part out of the .qtz file and just have the skin cover the edges? |

We haven't worked out how to have the qtz masked to a shape yet. If you know a way then please let me know! It could be square finished, but I don't think that'd look as good. I'm happy making up each skin as a separate file. |

What I mean is have the quartz in a rectangle, and then have the skin as an image with transparency that goes over it and covers the corners of the quartz file. |

After I set the widget out in Developer mode on my desktop, and it cycled through the colors a few times, it cycled to red and stopped cycling, although the blobs still move. What happened?
EDIT: they started cycling again, but it stayed on red for a really long time first, and they're really slow. |

Sorry, I hadn't seen that. | Don't worry!
Nobody replied to it - so it's good to have it re-mentioned.

Yes please.
I watched one at a NYE party for a while... I don't think there's an easy solution to get it more realistic. We will keep developing it as we have time though.
Re: slowing down. I'm not sure why. The makeup of the widget is really simple, so it could just be an OS X Quartz thing. |

Here are some pictures:
My brother's lava lamp. It hardened like this.
My lava lamp, in the dark
EDIT: For some reason, the last three pictures don't have thumbs. The links still work though. _________________ I hate my username

Ah thanks! That's great reference for me.
When I get a chance I'll look into making it a bit more realistic. I think the best solution would be full 3d meta balls. Not easy to do though. |

I just installed OS X 10.4.4 on my iMac and now anytime I flip any widget over, the lava lamp flickers. I'm not sure if this is a new problem that came with the install of 10.4.4, or if I just haven't noticed it until now. |
