This is how i do it in Fireworks
-create a shape
-give it a gradient (say dark blue to light blue)
-copy and paste it
-change the new shape to pure white
-set it's transparency to somewhere around 50-60 %
-select the layer of the new triangle in in the little drop down menu select "flatten selection"
-get the rectangluar marquee tool and cut the shape in half
- decrease the width by two pixels
-place it so it's 1pixel from the top of the gradient shape
-All done! (if you don't want such a sharp edge on the bottom of the "shine" shape just use the blur tool)

There are probably better ways buts that's how I do it!
