Does anyone like the idea of a widget that duplicates the function of the "Manage Widgets…" button in the widget bar? (OS 10.4.2 only) It would be so that you could open the Widget Manager without having to open the widget bar.

-1 vote from me.

It's only removing one click from the process of opening the manager.

Screen real estate can get precious pretty quickly as it is with widgets, so adding one widget to take over functionality that is currently delivered only when needed seems backward.

If that is all that it does, and I don't see how you might integrate some useful new features,...the thing would be rather redundant - I'm sure most people don't mind clicking once, or even a couple times to launch the widget manager.

I don't know if you were imagining a minute widget that acts as a button or not, but even at the smallest size you can't get rid of it being redundant. And, if it is too big, people like myself that don't like cluttering the dashboard will probably not use it.

The only thing I could think of that would make this sort of thing justified is if it is integrated into a decorative widget that looks so nice that the aesthetic value is the widget's primary "function" (or offering) and the function of opening the Widget Manager (by triple clicking or such) would be secondary. I like the thought of integrating something useful into a widget like the Apple logos widget, but the trouble is not so much that the thing becomes a "jack of all trades, master of none" but that it chews up memory for a secondary cause more than it does for the primary. So, that sort of blows the idea that it might be useful to have a redundant idea so long as it's dressed well and out of the way - it'd still just be unnecessary. It doesn't matter how nice it looks.

Your avatar style is going to become the standard DashboardWidgets.com avatar! Very Happy
But I would suggest not to just copy yours (twisted's) but to modify it (change color, style, …) and use a variation as your avatar. (As jtbandes and I did)

yeah that's what the templates for. It just says name and has my color, but if you know how to do some basic stuff (very basic) in photoshop you can change the name and color very easily.

Anyways, a widget like the above, like Ludge said, would probably only make an already efficient task ever so slightly easier.

Thank you.

Now I officially have no clew as to the nature of my existence.

By the way, the topic of this thread is about widgets opening the Manage Widgets thing.

We should open an own "avatar topic" to prevent all these OT posts Very Happy

I preferWidget Master. Apple's widget manager does not work on system widgets and it does not look as good as Widget Master.
