Hi Guys
so its christmas day,im bored and i want to play with the cocoa spotlight api's

So what does this mean.Basically im going to create a mini spotlight widget.
It would be very fast(as fast as spotlight-probably faster as no interface overheads), it would be resizeable and scrollable,it would probably support "Limit to this folder" features and probably allow you choose what to search on(Eg name, date, creator etc)

Could turn it into an application/widget launcher quite easily by limiting the file types.Or maybe that would be best as a seperate widget

What do you guys think
would you find it useul ?

Hm, generally a great idea!
(Damn I'd suggested to make such a thing months ago (July '05) and no one listened …
…and now everybody wants to make one!)

PowerMacGuy yesterday said he was doing one right now…

…and Caleb and I are currently doing the one of which I'd already done the graphix:

Your widget is supposed to be a link to ONE specified app, right?

The widget Caleb and I are working (and those from powermacguy and maybe islayer) on will be for searching widgets and then launching them!

With our widget you'll be able to search for widgets (and apps), yours is only for apps!

I don't think that people who'll use our widget, won't download yours!

These widgets are really different, I think!

da_vinci im interested in hearing more about yours.
How does it work ?
does it just look inside your applications and widgets folders or does it actually search for them regardless of location ?

Caleb and I have almost finished (final make-up) the widget just today!

A release candidate will follow soon!

I'm "only" doing the graphics! Caleb is the one for the coding stuff!

I had written a working and fast (uses cache files to improve speed) Command-line Spotlight engine!

But in the end Caleb used a native Javascript algorhythm for searching.
So I don't know how he did it!
