We just recently finished our dashboard widget http://www.dashboardwidgets.com/showcase/details.php?wid=2021 and have been getting a few downloads. Today the guy that's hosting our site was appalled that we would have our widget doing calls to the server (Atom feed) every time someone uses our widget. He said that their should have been some sort of Cacheing built in and or we should have used a feedburner feed. So, I have a few questions that I was hoping this forum could answer:

Is there a way to change our current feed over to feedburner without having to kill the widget the people have downloaded til now?

Does anyone know if it's possible to do some cacheing on for the widget so that it doesn't have to hit the server everytime?

Is this issue something that we should be concerned with?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you put this code into your .htaccess file, you can redirect your old RSS feed URL to the new FeedBurner URL. That would allow the widget and any other subscribers to remain subscribed to the old feed while accessing cached content from FeedBurner. Before burning the feed in FeedBurner, be sure to give it a new file name. That way, you'll have the old URL redirect to FeedBurner and FeedBurner will get its data from the old feed at a new URL.

Code:
RedirectMatch permanent ^/pathToOldFile$ http://feeds.feedburner.com/YourFeedBurnerCode

Thank you very much. I assumed there would be a way to redirect the feed url. I'll give it a try.
