Miscellaneous - Sticky Spawn

Description: Sure, Apple's Stickies widget is great, but it's such a hassle to open a new note. Make way for Sticky Spawn. He's small but more than capable of doing the job. Just drag Sticky Spawn onto your Dashboard and whenever you need to open a new sticky note, click on the tiny Sticky Spawn widget to open a blank sticky (from Apple's Stickies widget). He doesn't take up very much space, and it sure beats having to open up the Dashboard dock and fumble through pages of widgets when you need to jot something down.

Special thanks to ajwitte for the inspiration and base code from his widget, Stickies Dispenser.

This is a better implementation of the original idea, it's staying permanently on my dashboard very useful! Just curious, why doesn't the ripple effect appear when new stickies are created using Sticky Spawn?

Love this widget, it works great! Now if only Dashboard opened faster...
Not having the ripple effect problem, but that's because my video card is so old that nothing gives me the ripple effect.smiley

There is no ripple effect because Apple's Dashboard doesn't currently support the visual effect for how this widget is written. (Again, thanks to ajwitte!) The widget opens the file outside of the Dashboard (through a terminal command) so until Apple updates this bug in the Dashboard, or I'm able to figure out a way to trigger the command through Dashboard, I'm afraid there will be no ripple.

But since I'm on an iBook G4 anyway, I don't even get to see the ripple effect for any widget!

Thank you, everyone, for the kind comments, and I'm glad you're enjoying Sticky Spawn.

Why do I need this if I use my Apple widget manager to open the stickies on the dashboard? Whenever, I need a new sticky on the dashboard, I click on the stickies in my widget manager.

thx

The widget manager is big and this is small. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm on a 1024x768 iBook, so I don't really have the screen real estate to keep the Widget Manager open all the time.

I can't figure out why this won't work. That other "stickies dispenser" also doesn't work for me and I do have the "stickies" widget in my library... ??
Help, I could really use this smiley

Ensure that you have Stickies.wdgt in HD/Library/Widgets. This version of Sticky Spawn will not work with customized Stickies widgets (placed in ~/Library/Widgets). If you have a customized version of Stickies.wdgt, grab the Sticky Spawn red widget from the following web site. I hope that helps.

I have never left a comment on DBW before, but I had to here. This? This is brilliance. This is what Dashboard should be -- usefulness at one keystroke and one click, not one keystroke then opening the manager then scrolling to the next page to get to Stickies and then dragging it up. Thank you so much for this!
