Does it have a 160 character limit? Does Yahoo set their limit to 120 characters because they add on a signature saying that it was sent from Yahoo, blah blah blah? Just a few thoughts.

That's a good question. I should test that.

I'm guessing Yahoo's service is U.S.A. only :-(

Works great! You should be able to fill in your Yahoo login info on the back, though.

We are working on that.

this is exactly the sort of thing i've been asking for in the requests forum.

what it nees is:

1. get list from address book of all contacts with cell phone numbers, put in popup.

2. default to last number and provider used

3. login to a particular yahoo account

4. or better yet, is it possible to "spoof" the send address? in other words when i just set a test message it came from redrocklobster@yahoo.com.

however, it would be better if the reply address is my t-mobile e-mail address.

Posted by: redrocklobster on Aug 12, 05 (1:05 AM) for version 1.0 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

oh, and it would be better in my opinion if it didn't open the safari confirmation page and had a confirmation in the widget and kept you in dashboard.

but that's my 2 cents.

anyway thanks.

Great widget.

My requests:

1.) No Safari pop-up. Sent OK message in the widget itself.

2.) List of 5 last-used phone numbers - or, an even better suggestion... Address Book integration.

Keep up the AMAZING work!

we're not sure how yahoo's 120 character limit works, but it seems that we can bypass it using the code in our widget...try it out, and tell us what happens with the limits and stuff.

How about using Google's service for the widget instead of Yahoo's:

http://toolbar.google.com/send/sms/index.php

It doesn't require you to login.

Thanks powermac99, we didn't know about that. We'll get right on it.

2000 characters? An SMS only supports 160. Whaddup?

Posted by: Lundmark on Aug 19, 05 (12:26 AM) for version 1.5 (previous version)

US only as usual.

Would it be possible for the next version to support Canadian networks such as, Rogers/Fido, Bell, and Telus?

Posted by: dansgil on Aug 19, 05 (5:32 AM) for version 1.5 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

Well, google says that their limit is 2000 characters. I've honestly never sent an sms longer then a few words. Also, we are looking for ways to get this working with other countries. If you know sms sites that allow you to send sms messages to canadian cell phones without signing in to an account, please email me at brianrubinton@acdesigns.biz

To Lundmark:
It's US only not by our choice. Blame Google and the others for offering only the US. If you know any website that offers sending sms message in countries other than the US, feel free to email me, and we'll see what we can do. alanchao@acdesigns.biz

Hi. This widget looks very cool but a shame that is it US only. Here in France we had to wait a year to have ITMS so I really hope you guys could cope much faster than Apple this time and provide us with a French version of this great iSend. This is a French link to send free text messages (SMS) :
http://lexgosms.free.fr/

Thank you for the good job !

To Dontcarez111:
"It's US only not by our choice. Blame Google and the others for offering only the US"
Yes, but you could (I hope) write it in the description "US numbers only".

Posted by: ChrisB on Aug 21, 05 (9:54 PM) for version 2.01 (previous version)

Can you reduce the size, please? This takes up a ton of space.

It doesn't have to say "Mobile Phone Number & Mobile Phone Carrier... have it just say "Phone Number: _______" on one line, "Carrier: [ Verizon ]" on another. Or have the widget collapsible.

I downloaded the widget, and plan to use it every now & then, but it's staying off the desktop until then.

Posted by: Liquidrums on Aug 21, 05 (10:37 PM) for version 2.01 (previous version)

It's too big? Man, you must have one seriously crammed dashboard. Anyways, we picked the size so it's as clean as possible. Taking out text and moving it all closer together would make the widget really cluttered.

Posted by: brianru on Aug 22, 05 (6:13 AM) for version 2.01 (previous version)

The site at the end of this post allows you to send SMS Messages to tons of countries, no login required, could you use it in a future version of iSend. i would really appreciate it as I'm sure many othrs will too.

Should be made clear in the description that this widget is only of use to the minority in the US.

The design of this widget far surpasses others out there, but it's quite feature-poor. As others have mentioned, some kind of number history or address book integration is a must. also, the user should be able to input their email address (if desired) so they can receive a response while siting at the computer.

after recieving a message on my phone from isend, if i reply to that message where can i see that message.

Posted by: chrismosher23 on Sep 02, 05 (6:59 AM) for version 2.1 (previous version)

I don't think you can see that message. I honestly have no clue where that message would be sent.

Posted by: brianru on Sep 11, 05 (4:53 AM) for version 2.1 (previous version)

You might want to look at the code for the "SMS" widget, which allows the user to input their own cell number or email address where they can receive responses to messages sent with the widget. (at least in theory -- I haven't gotten it to work yet.) At any rate, this seems to function like the "reply-to" header in email, and to me is a pretty important part of any SMS widget.

Posted by: becky on Sep 26, 05 (10:17 PM) for version 2.2 (previous version)

Not sure I see a need for this. I have all my friends numbers in iChat in a group called "Mobile" in my buddy list.

When I want to message them, I just double click their name and send a message. the beauty of it is that they can reply right back to my IM window.

No need to remember numbers or anything.

i havnt downloaded yet but can i use it even though i dont have a cell phone. how do you know its free?

Posted by: Uplink on Aug 13, 06 (3:40 AM) for version 3.0a (current version)

Hey, i'm Brian Rubinton from Duhsoft. So to answer Uplink's questions, you do not need your own cell phone to use iSend Global, furthermore the widget is completely free to use.

Posted by: brianru on Aug 13, 06 (9:31 AM) for version 3.0a (current version)

The developer's website lists Optus (Australia) as one of their carriers, yet the pull down in the widget does not list Optus or even have a section for any Australian carriers. So how do I send anything?

Posted by: tedious on Aug 15, 06 (4:21 PM) for version 3.0a (current version)

We'll be updating iSend sometime this week with new carriers. Sorry, but this is an alpha designed for the purpose of expanding the carrier list.
