Wow. That widget is really stylish. I wonder if you could do it to check the mails in apple mail because i also have other accounts than the g-mail one. Would be SO GREAT!

Excellent widget, back to basics! Just two suggestions:

1. Perhaps add a checkbox option whether to login when clicked or simply launch http://mail.google.com/mail. I usually have my details saved in cookies and the site loads much faster without logging on again. Having the widget login each time also seems to erase/negate the cookies stored by the browser.

2. Purely aesthetic: remove the black border on mouseover? The widget looks brilliant as it, maybe just have the 'i' fade in when mousing over?

Thanks for the great work! Cheers

@timconduit:

You mean instead of checking Gmail, checking any POP3 account? And on clicking on it to open the standard email application? I think this would be possible smiley

@weisheng:

1. I didn't realize that at all. I'll see if I can implement it.

2. I made the box because it wouldn't look nice in bottom bar where the widgets are and to place the small i-button somewhere. I don't like when the i-button is somewhere outside of the widget "body".

Wow thanks for responding to my request about logging in! Well I get what you mean, the border doesn't really bother me...after all it's your widget! smiley Cheers for the great work

I can't get the widget to flip back over from the username and password backside.

ditto, same as palams

Yep slight glitch there :

I don't understand it! When I test it local it works. Then I upload it and it doesn't work any more. I think it has to do with the encoding of the HTML file.

I'll update it as soon as possible and… Sorry smiley

Neither version works for me. : (

I simply don't understand it.

I archived the widget and the i unzipped it and loaded it—everything worked.

When I upload it and then download it, it doesn't work anymore…

It's driving me nuts!

Yes. That's what i mean. Just checking the inbox of the mail program. For example: i have six e-mailadresses and it would be great to have the number that is shown as a small symbol on top of the mail-icon just as a big one in dashboard. Thanks!!!

Great... simple but great

The only reason I don't use this widget is because it stays red all of the time. The Gmail widget that looks like the postage stamp is too large but only grabs my attention (by turning red) when there's a new email.

If this one stayed grey when there were 0 new messages, that would be perfect.

I like it, but I don't like the black background.

Earlier you said "I made the box because it wouldn't look nice in bottom bar where the widgets are and to place the small i-button somewhere. I don't like when the i-button is somewhere outside of the widget 'body'." I think you should just put the 'i' button somewhere inside the red circle, and get rid of the black border. The icon in the widget bar is a different image; you don't have to make the widet look the same.

How often does it update? It doesn't seem to unless I refresh it or flip it back and forth.

Posted by: jtbandes on Aug 30, 05 (4:53 AM) for version 1.3 (previous version)

I updates every time you show up dashboard. I'm working on an widget update, so you can choose how often it should update and if it should update even if dashboard is inactive. I'm thinking about implementing a Growl notification, which when you click on it opens the inbox.

Posted by: fphilipe (developer) on Aug 30, 05 (7:57 AM) for version 1.3 (previous version)

I have devmode on, so this widget's on my desktop. There is no onshow() event if the widget's on the desktop, so I need it to update frequently.

What is "Growl notification"? I've heard the term before but I don't know what it means.

Can you add hotmail and gmail to it smiley ?
Thanks... eCheck is something I want (but it doesn't work good smiley )

A little better... But I want every 1 minute.

Beautiful widget! This is the perfect size for a Gmail widget, and it works well. I like the preference on the back for frequency of mail checks.

I love that it sends Growl notifications, but it isn't working for me smiley
I have the right account/password, but all I get is an X when I know I have two emails in my inbox..

Posted by: mersea on Dec 04, 05 (4:09 PM) for version 2.0 (current version)   View Detailed Rating

“X” means that the widget failed to load the numbers of emails. This could be caused by no available connection to the internet or it could be that Google is down.

Try opening the console to see if you get a message.

I'm staring at my inbox as we speak, when I click the widget (with either log in checked or not) it brings me to my inbox as expected..

Thank you for this nice widget!

On Leopard I had problems where it didn't load the CSS properly unless I resaved the file with UTF-16 encodings instead of UTF-8.

Also, the update notification is broken, due to some malfunctions here at DashboardWidgets.com

Regards,
Fredrik
