System Utilities - UtilityButton

Description: UtilityButton is a small widget that gives you easy access to Mac OS X utilities that you use sometimes, but don't want cluttering up your dock. All you do is click on the button, choose the utility, and it opens.

I was all ready to bash this widget but then I tried it and wow! Does it work; it does what it says and you can launch the same application multiple times with this one unlike other application launchers.

The GUI is the only thing that isn't perfect but it is still very nice.

Great idea... but why no iPod updater?

THANK YOU!!!

Every blue moon i have to run network utility or activity monitor, and, although spotlight makes it easy, this is even better!

great job on keeping a tiny, tiny interface instead of a space waster!

I didn't put in the iPod updater because I wanted to include apps that were on every computer. Not everyone has the iPod updater, so there would be a problem when people who don't have it tried to launch it.

Great widget. The only problem is that it's hard to drag: you have to drag the very edge of the widget to move it, you can't just drag anywhere.

Suggestion: include tools for those who have XCode tools.

Path: /Developer/Applications

Maybe an option on the back to say if you have XCode tools or not.

This is a very, very useful widget.

My only further suggestion would be to somehow make the utilities it lists customizable. For example, I prefer iTerm over Terminal, and there are utilities listed that I never use, and some utilities I find indespensible are missing. However, I don't see any easy way of providing uberflexible configuration and still keep that minimalistic interface.

Great work, and I'm interest in seeing how it evolves.

the only problem i have here is that at first i thought this was going to be a widget version of mainmenu, which has the exact same icon. something to think about....

I have created an Aqua version of default.png
I can email it to you if you want, but you'll have PM me because I probably won't be back here for a while.

We decided to move away from the 'hammer and wrench' design because several users noted similarities to other applications.

Sorry, IanTheMacFan, I didn't use your image. Maybe next time. smiley
