Schedules - dashboardMovies

Description: dashboardMovies is an html/javascript Dashboard widget for getting local movie listings. Check for updates often and feel free to email with suggestions, questions, etc.. and we will get to you when we can.

This is an early alpha. It appears to work most of the time, but may not for ALL zip codes. Read the README for current update plans.

New in this version: Ability to change and store zip code via the GUI, better looking listings, minor fixes.

Upcoming version: Sort by theater or movie, better reliability for all zip codes, distance settings, listings by date, and more!

The included README says to open the included HTML file to edit the zip code. One small problem--there is NO html file in the zip package. So I can't configure the widget. One other issue--I copied the widget to my Widgets folder, but it doesn't show up in my Dashboard bar. So the only way to launch it is manually (by double clicking the .wdgt file itself). The idea behind this widget is good enough, but the execution leaves some things to be desired (like configurability and accessibility).
Lots of promise here, though.

Actually, there is an html file there... just hold the control key down and click on the widget; choose "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu that results. A new window will open, scroll around to find the html file. Make sure you hold the control key down and press and hold on the html file so you can open and save it in TextEdit instead of Safari (which won't edit the file). Replace the zip with yours... worked like a charm for me. Now if I could only figure out how to widen the search...

I downloaded the new version today happy to know that I didn't have to go into the html file anymore. Then I went into dashboard and entered my zip code and it said "failed to parse listings at Theater level". I was wondering what this is and why I can't get movie listings.

I was hoping for just such a widget as soon as I started figuring out the whole dashboard concept. But I haven't been too impressed with it's stability or lack of settings.
I hope there is an updated version soon or I can find one that works more to my liking.

You should really think about scaling back the interface. This doesn't really fit well with Apple's interface guidelines

I am stunned that this is the only movie widget around... this was the #1 thing I've been looking for... it was the only reason I ever used sherlock... How is it that there are 20 wiki widgets, and I don't even know what wiki is, but only ONE movie widget? With an ugly interface, and it doesn't work for any of the zipcodes I've tried... I really want this to work though... please update!!

My biggest problem (other than it can't parse my theater) is that the close button is outside the widget area. When I go to click it - it dissappears. I have to use activity monitor to close it.

This is a bogus widget taht doesn't even work. Entered my zip 95060 and it refused to provide listings. Hit enter after entering the zip code and the widget disappeared.

This is a good Widget idea, but has a number of problems.

First, if the user presses return after entering their zip code instead of clicking "Done," the Widget becomes invisible and difficult to close. I, too, was unable to get listings for my area - 'failed to parse listings at Theater level'.
Also, on a simpler level, the interface was an image with a table in the center - not Apple enough. And the Widget had no icon for the tray.

Good luck.
