System Utilities - Optusnet Usage Meter

Description: This widget checks how much of an Optusnet Broadband account's monthly download limit has been used and displays it as a percentage.

If you switch to Dashboard and it has been more than an hour since the last update then the widget automatically updates the data.
The widget may also display one of the following messages: starting - the widget is getting ready to run, loading - the widget is getting new usage data, error - the widget couldn't get any data (check the username and password).

Great little widget. Seems to work for both Cable and ADSL accounts.

I'd love to see a graphical representation showing more detail, since on the actual Optusnet Data Usage account page, it shows:

1. your "included" download usage
2. your bonus download usage
3. days remaining in current billing period

I'd like to see that info available in the widget.

One very bad "downside" to this widget is that in the widget preference plist, it stores your Optus account name AND password in clear text. Very bad. Perhaps utilising Keychain could be a solution here?

McFly, yeah storing the password isn't really a good idea. I haven't fixed that yet because I don't know if/how widgets can be made to access the keychain (perhaps it could be done using a plug-in).

The next version probably wont store the password at all and will use a better way of requesting the usage data (POST rather than GET). Hopefully I'll get my copy of Tiger tonight so I'll be able to test the changes myself. smiley

I've just updated the widget so that the password isn't stored (you'll need to enter it each time you drag the widget onto your dashboard). The new version also uses POST instead of GET so those of you behind proxies and whatnot can breath easier.

Good widget. I seem to have a problem with it though.

When you flip the widget to enter your user name/password, hitting "return" causes the widget to hang.

You get the message "launching" and the "i" will highlight but it does nothing. Works fine if you hit the "done" button.

Look forward to a fix and the additional info now that Optus allow free bandwith out of hours.

It hangs for me at the 'launching' stage too.
