| Description: | Grabs and animates radar images from The Weather Channel or NOAA. The map can be a regional map or for a specific city. One can set the animation speed, update frequency, and map in the preferences. Maps are arbitrary scalable. For a city, the widget loads the 600-mile map by default. If the entered ZIP code has a 300-mile or 100-mile map available, buttons appear on the front for the user to select the radar range. It is also possible to control the animation manually by clicking one of the buttons that appear. For more information, see the Radar In Motion website, http://www.dividedsoul.net/RadarInMotion |

This widget is excellent. It is the one widget that keeps me opening the dashboard throughout the day.

This is the best weather widget, as of now...
I wish you could click and get a higher resolution of the images...

Excellent! It's just replaced my "US Weather+" widget. A simple border around the animation would be nice though.

Great widget. A simple border would be nice, but a manual refresh button would be even better.

I say no border. It's just a waste of space!

An awesome update. The buttons are perfect.
Posted by: jdjacobs on Jun 29, 05 (3:00 PM) for version 0.4 (previous version)
Nice buttons, but they are hard to find (I re-downloaded thinking I got .3 for some reason) but now I found the buttons. They also should appear whenever you mouse over the "entire button area" instead of having to mouse over the left or bottom edge of that area.
Posted by: bdog on Jun 30, 05 (3:31 AM) for version 0.4 (previous version)
Now that .4 has a refresh button, I thought I'd see if I could set it so that it refreshed only manually. Tried setting it to refresh every 0 minutes, but it didn't like that and froze up for a while before giving me a black screen with no buttons. Perhaps you could add a "refresh only manually" option for those of us who are occassionally on dial-up?

great widget. For fun I opened 5 or 6 copies and made a weather map of the entire USA

Very nice update. Keep up the excellent work!

0.6 only gives me a back window, no radar images. reverted back to 0.5 and it still works.

Hi, everyone,
Sorry about the period of time when the widget did not work. I inadvertently uploaded a version of the files that contained a bug. For future reference, the widget does have a webpage at <a href="http://www.dividedsoul.net/RadarInMotion">http://www.dividedsoul.net/RadarInMotion</a>. Whenever I find bugs, new versions will get to that page first and I will post announcements about it. Please let me know if you have any other problems or suggestions!

Great Widget.
I didn't see the atlantic satellite from accuweather in the .6 version (or any other imagery of the eastern caribbean).
In hurricane season that is the one to watch. Can that be added?

I agree w/ rpicayo. That would be incredibly awesome for those of us in the southeast ^^

With "update every" set to zero, the widget still automatically updates when dashboard is activated and the widget hasn't been updated for a while.
Posted by: jdjacobs on Jul 15, 05 (4:16 PM) for version 0.6 (previous version)

Nice update, I like the option to hold the current image.

Wow, this widget has come along nicely! I can't image a few month down the road what 2.0 will look like, let alone 1.0.
You fixed a bug I was about to mention. Also, I don't like it wasting bandwidth, so I set it to update on dashboard activation instead of every 10 or 20 minutes.
What would be really nice is to have a menu so you could change different maps, like fog, ground moisture, pressure, ect. It would also be cool if you could see hot/cold fronts.
Posted by: bdog on Jul 24, 05 (6:03 AM) for version 0.8 (previous version)
Oh yea, 2 more things;
1. All the black buttons should be a different color as they blend into the background too much.
2. A really cool feature would be another pop-up menu (next to the map type as I spoke of above) that you could have your favorite quick maps in. Instead of going to prefs and clicking through a few maps, or instead of having multiple widgets of RIM open, you could just choose from your favorite maps. Of course you would have to set these favorites first. This would take some work, but it would be a fantastic feature that would make sure your weather widget stays on-top. Oh, and of course you will need closer maps of Europe, Asia, ect. (Ok, that's 3 more things)
Posted by: bdog on Jul 24, 05 (6:12 AM) for version 0.8 (previous version)
Another really cool and easy to implement idea. If you use the update on dashboard activation option, there should be another checkbox below it and indented to the right that says "Only if data is xx minutes old". This way if you activate dashboard 10 or 20 times in a few minutes, the weather doesn't get updated so many times. I would use this to set it to not update if the data is under 20 minutes old.
Posted by: bdog on Jul 24, 05 (6:35 AM) for version 0.8 (previous version)
Just to respond to bdog's suggestions:
- I do plan to make the "update on activation" feature allow one to set a time for the updating
- For the other maps mentioned, they are maps that aren't animated, so I'm not sure I'm going to add those. I believe another widget exists for still maps. If there is enough demand, I'll look into putting them in.
- Unfortunately, weather.com does not have closer maps for countries other than the US. I could look into using another source, but I think this would detract from the consistency of the look with regard to the maps.
- A "favorite maps" option is also being pondered....I just have to figure out the cleanest way to implement it. I imagine that will come around by 1.0.
Keep the suggestions coming!
Posted by: manof1000ages (developer) on Jul 24, 05 (12:45 PM) for version 0.8 (previous version)

Very nice, just a few suggestions:
• Have one button for "start"/"stop" and "300m"/"600m" that changes dynamically. Also, disable "next" if the map's animating.
• Option for buttons to always be available.
• Save preferences, so that if I close the widget and then open a new one it will have my settings from the last widget.

Just updated to the latest security fix 1.1.. now this widget is unable to load...
Posted by: Adman on Aug 18, 05 (3:12 PM) for version 1.0 (previous version) View Detailed Rating
The timing of the security fix and the widget not working are coincidence. Currently, weather.com is not working at all, meaning the widget cannot function, either.
Posted by: manof1000ages (developer) on Aug 18, 05 (3:21 PM) for version 1.0 (previous version)

I find this widget is useful and cool.
- I wish it had rounded corners.
- I think that if the Weather Channel is not available, the widget should notify the user.
