Math & Science - RPN Calculator

Description: The first RPN calculator widget. Features base conversion, bitwise arithmetic, and decimal-to-fraction conversion. Common functions have keyboard equivalents. Includes clipboard support.
Author: colter
Version: 1.1
New in v1.1: Error checking (for example, don't drop the number if you don't have enough operands) and undo capability. A few minor bug fixes, like a result of zero will now get registered on the stack properly.

Small bug in 1.0: shifts don't work.

Posted by: kps on May 09, 05 (12:19 AM) for version 1.0 (previous version)

kps: If you're talking about getting the "inv" functions to show, I'm still figuring out a reliable way to capture when the shift key is pressed by itself. The current workaround is to click "inv" with the mouse.

If they don't show up when you click "inv", then we've got a problem. smiley

I type some number, then the plus sign, and another number. Then I try typing enter, the equals sign, nothing happens. Also, there needs to be a way to copy the result to the clipboard.

shunker: It's a RPN calculator. Type your first number, hit enter. Type your second number, then plus. Cmd-C will copy the bottom number to the clipboard.

The 'enter' key doesn't work for me, but the 'return' does enter data, RPN style. It would be nice if the 'enter' key worked as well since this in on the numeric keypad.

I have the same problem with the ENTER key on the numeric keypad. Please fix.

Thank you for this *gorgeous* widget. Is there any chance the % key could run a percentage macro, like this:

200 [ENTER]
29%
-> 58

Bravo! Clipboard support, full undo, stack functions. Very well done.

RPN for the masses !
A much better implementation of RPN calculation than even Apple's own Calc.app.

Thanks a lot for this widget.

Try this calculation:

1169.95 [ENTER}
1803.56-

RPN Calculator gives me

-633.6099999999998

What's up with that?

Very nice. I was hoping someone would just make the HP 48 emulator into a widget, but this will work for now smiley

Billibob: this is a standard issue with IEEE floating point calculations. To make a long story short, this is linked with how computers represent floating point numbers in their internal memory.

If you really want to see -633.61 as a result, you need to use a calculation program with a higher precision than standard IEEE. I think "RPNC" does this, however keep in mind that floating point operations on a computer will always be slightly off in one way or another.
