Very nice... is there a way to retrieve the Album Covers from the widget?... I would love that! Nice job!

Well designed, highly functional, low CPU and memory usage, no stupid start itunes every time you activate dashboard behavior (so common in apps that work off itunes), an all around excellent widget. Only one thing you might want to add, I sometimes get all excited and rate a song but change my mind and want to unrate it. Would that be difficult to add? I wish all widgets were this nicely thought out.

Excellent!! 1 problem for me though, all my mp3s are shared from another computer on my network. The album art doesn't show up when these are playing. Can this be fixed?

Nice, really, nice.

It would be cool though if the Widget resized to only the Song Artist and Title if there's no Coverart available.

Thanks for the comments!

I'll look into getting album art off shared music and think of something else to display other than the placeholder image if no art is found.

Awesome widget! Pretty much perfect, but it would be could if it could just show the name/artist/rating when there was no cover art smiley

This is what I've been begging for! Well executed indeed. I would love to see some color, font, transparency, etc. options. Nice Work!

Liquidx,

I love this widget! It seems to be more responsive in displaying the current song than Apple's own iTunes widget. The only suggestion I have is to display the name of the album. And to be able to resize it would be cool too. Nice design.

I like it.

The only improvement I could imagine is that clicking the songtitle would rotate trough title, album name, track length...

album art fetching is awesome, it would be cooler if it actually added it into the itunes song in the library, so that it would be veiwed on an ipod or something

This is a widget with great potential, but it doesn't work on my computer! I can't switch through tracks with it, and it sometimes has the album art displayed, sometimes not. I think that I should just redownload it, and it'll work fine. It'd be nice if there was also a volume control on it, though.

Exellent, but i listen always Radio with iTunes et i used usually with Konfabulator iTunesRadio Lover....
and i can see the artworks from the radio song's....
Please add this function.....

modcaveman,

it doesn't work? emm, maybe you can contact me via email and we can try to work something out. unfortunately, i only have 2 macs, a G3 and a G4 to test it out with, so it's kinda hard to cover all scenarios.

the album art fetching is a bit strict. i noticed that because amazon is quite strict on the fields. i spelt red hot chili peppers wrong on one of my songs (i spelt it as chilli) and it failed to find any album covers.

Posted by: liquidx (developer) on Jun 06, 05 (10:14 AM) for version 2.0 (previous version)

imacg517,

sure, i'm not a radio fan myself, but i'll see what i can do for that in the next version

jtylko,

i've also wanted to add a button to allow you to update the artwork with the next album, and even have a little icon telling you that the current displayed album cover is from amazon. but that'll have to wait til the next version smiley

Nice new features, although I must admit I liked the previous look of the widget better, please add it to the list of skins at the back. The "light" skin doesn't really look as slick as the previous one...

Another thing, any idea why the tracks of the album are listed in reverse order? (14, 13, 12, ..., 1)

V2.0 is the BEST widget so far. I use it all the time.

Now if you could only add controller functionality without sssssslllllloooooowwwwwwiiiiiinnnngggg everything down the way the other controller widgets do.

When downloading artwork from amazon, the album art doesn't stick. With that I mean that if I get out of dashbaord, and back into dashboard, the artwork is gone (and won't be retrieved again), resulting in a gray area. This while the artwork is available at amazon since it loaded previously.

THIS WIDGET IS WONDERFUL

It will be more nice and useful !

IT'S A VERY GOOS WORK !

I didn't realize I wanted anything else in the widget, which is excellent, until I started using it.

Like other have said, it would completely rock if it added the album art to iTunes automatically - but I would settle for (and be very happy) just being able to copy and paste it (which is probably easier to implement).

Thanks!

What a cool widget! Thanks for making such a fun and useful widget. It stays open all the time smiley

I, too, would like to be able to transfer the artwork to the song's iTunes info, either directly or via copy-paste. If you implement that, it would be nice to be able to import it without the Artist and Song Name appearing on it. Just my 2cents smiley

Posted by: Frumius on Jun 15, 05 (7:13 AM) for version 2.1 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

Copy-Paste workaround found:

To copy the artwork to the clipboard, press Command-control-shift-4. This turns your cursor into cross-hairs. Drag from one corner of the album art (or any part of the monitor) to the opposite corner and release the mouse. The area you selected will be copied to the clipboard, ready for you to paste into the artwork box in the song's info window in iTunes.

The same key combo without the control key pressed will save the screenshot to the desktop.

hrmm, i can change the color of the stars alright. but i definitely see the black pixels near the buttons, very odd! i must of missed out something when i added the buttons. i'll have to try tracking this down ... smiley

Liquidx:

I like the new metal look. However, with version 2.2 I can only get the metal and black themes to work. The blue, orange, and light colors aren't working. When I select these colors it is transparent with no color and all I see is a bunch of question marks. Also, the album art does appear fuzzy compared to version 1. Finally, how can you call it "Album Art" and not list the name of the album?

Posted by: ExtremeBrian on Jul 12, 05 (5:46 AM) for version 2.2 (previous version)

Great Widget!
Unfortunately, the "Add artwork to iTunes Song"-function only worked twice, then never again. Why´s that?

Posted by: Dingo on Jul 12, 05 (12:45 PM) for version 2.2 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

extremebrian, hehe .. good point. although it has "album art", not "album name" .. so ... but anyway, if you click on the song title, it'll switch to the album name. i thought as long as you can see the art work, there's not much point also displaying the name smiley

I'm a bit perplexed about the missing artwork since it works for me and a number of other people. but i'll do some more testing to try and reproduce the problem.

Posted by: liquidx (developer) on Jul 12, 05 (2:08 PM) for version 2.2 (previous version)

dingo, the add artwork feature fails mysterioiusly after a number of uses (usually around 20 or so for me), i'm not quite sure why yet, but i'm on the case. the workaround right now is the restart the widget, unfortunately.

Posted by: liquidx (developer) on Jul 12, 05 (2:09 PM) for version 2.2 (previous version)

Good widget. Would be nice if you could add the song title and artist below the artwork though. I don't like it covering the artwork... To be honest I liked the earlier look (just before you added text onto the artwork) a lot more than this one.

But like I said, good widget. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Posted by: KaDJiiS on Jul 13, 05 (1:07 AM) for version 2.2 (previous version)

I love the new features. The only thing is that I can't switch the star color from the default.

Great widget!
I can't change the default colour either though.
One suggestion, I'm not even sure if this can be done, but is it possible to add a 'delete song' button (with confirmation of course!) I am often listening to itunes having imported an entire album, only to come across songs which I hate. I would love an easy way to get rid of them.

Also any chance of a search again for artwork, I have a couple of albums have pulled down the wrong artwork.

The drop shadow is a little harsh in the dashboard, layer..To me it looks better on the desktop... I really do not like when the same icon is used for 3 different functions... So although I am really like the design and appearance. I find the ergonomic functionality is not as well developed. e.g. the iTunes button displays some icons that are familiar, but I am not sure what they do here, there is room in that area for 6 icons.. so it looks like 3 are missing to me.

I would give it only 3 stars for functionality, but it has 2 backsides, the switching logic is solid, and it feels especially solid; that is worthy of extra stars to me.

Posted by: cerberus on Sep 02, 05 (5:30 AM) for version 2.3 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

thats a good point, maybe the icons need captions which i forgot about before i released this version. probably i've thought that just like any app, if there's a button you don't know what it does, just keep your mouse over it and a tooltip would appear.

Posted by: liquidx (developer) on Sep 02, 05 (9:43 AM) for version 2.3 (previous version)

getting better, thanks! problem: black color skin doesn't work, shows as metal. control icons a little confusing. (all look like refresh buttons). would like to know whether images found on internet are cached and if so where. thanks.

Well, I like the new look and added features a lot. Nice job. Unfortunately, now I can't get artwork from amazon.com anymore. I tried trashing the preference file and reloading it. Anyone else having this problem that has a solution to offer?

Posted by: GldFsh419 on Sep 02, 05 (10:47 PM) for version 2.3 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

i really like that you can download the images from amazon for the album artwork in iTunes. However i noticed this only applies when you input the album name into the song in iTunes. Is there any way you can make it so it can search for the song name, and get the album art for that? also, it would be nice if you can choose to see the artwork from amazon even if you have the artwork in iTunes. I noticed a bug in this though: I used this widget to apply the artwork in iTunes for the album "O" by damien rice. I hit the button to apply the artwork for the entire album in iTunes, but it applied it to almost every single song in my Library. i can't find the pattern though, it just seems like it was random. weird.

Posted by: andrethegiant on Sep 06, 05 (10:01 PM) for version 2.3 (previous version)

ok, i found the pattern. instead of inserting the artwork for the album "O", it inserted it in all the albums that had an "o" in it. This also happens when you flip to the second backside: all the songs whose album has an o in it show up. This should not be the case, it needs to be the exact match.

Posted by: andrethegiant on Sep 06, 05 (10:37 PM) for version 2.3 (previous version)

This is definitely one of my favorite widgets. Not only is it small and easy to use, but it has tons of features in it that other iTunes widgets don't have. I'm totally keeping this one in my widget bar; nice work!

Posted by: skyhawkrider on Sep 15, 05 (3:22 AM) for version 2.3 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

A very impressive widget, and by far one of the most useful. Doesn't take up a lot of RAM, the controls are responsive and quick, the option to download itunes artwork from a variety of web locations is superb, and the ability to customize the widget is cool. A very good widget in my opinion.

Not sure what the button for "show album tracks" does besides JUST show the names of the tracks. It looks like they are links, but nothing happens when they are clicked.

Suggestion: Add the ability to type in a song or cd that comes to mind and have the widget play it. Also, probably should have an auto hide feature as well. (was a very good feature for the song info!)
