this is the best blogging widget that i have seen so far. it worked well with my wordpress site, although it could not retrieve catagories. the html preview alone makes this widget something that i will continue to use, despite having to log into my blog anyways to set the category.

I'll try and sort out the wordpress problem today, which means I'll have to put up a test install somewhere.

thanks for the feedback!

otherwise will upload it tomorrow.

ok. new version up with WordPress support.

seeing as this site seems to not like my direct entry blog urls... either email me through the site or post <a href="staff.cofa.unsw.edu.au/blojsom/blog/nigelkersten/">on my blog</a> if you have any urgent issues. I get notified of those posts.

Better than Dashblog. Is there another blog widget out there? But it still isn't great. If everything worked, then it would be great.

This barely works with Drupal 4.6. It posts, but then Drupal doesn't know what kind of post it is. Drupal displays it, but not when you try to edit it.

It also doesn't fetch categories. Even version 1.1 doesn't.

It doesn't work with Drupal at all? Is that meant to support the Metaweblog API? A quick google showed that Drupal appears to have broken support for metaweblog, particularly getting categories.

In case people didn't realise, there are several competing blogging APIs out there.

This widget ONLY supports Metaweblog. I may consider doing alternative versions that support the other API types, like Atom etc, but I haven't done that.

I should mention that if anyone has a Drupal server with the blogging module installed, and would like support for this, it would help if you could give me a test login, as I probably won't get around to installing Drupal myself.

email me and we'll sort something out.

Hey. Just noticed that this widget doesn't work through the system's proxy server settings, as my firewall caught the packet trying to go direct. I'd be grateful if this could be fixed, as I'd like to try to use it.

Just FYI.

ah. interesting. I'd foolishly assumed rcpCall would use the proxy. thanks for the heads up, will sort that out today.

I just tested the download the dashboardwidgets.com people put on their site here, and it's unpacked fine for me.

you can always grab a copy at my site if it's not working here for some reason.

(here goes watching this site mess up my href...)

I was keen to try this widget out with Movable Type because of the category inclusion which Dashblog lacks. But I've had trouble both retrieving categories and posting to any of my blogs.

I have several blogs set up with the same account and since there is no option to choose which blog you want to post to could this be the reason I am having troubles?

After completing my config info I attempt to retrive categories but instead receive "An unknown error has occured". If I then attempt to post any content an error claiming that my username and password is incorrect is returned.

Movable Type supports MetaWeblog API so is there another problem here? Has anyone else had success using this widget for MT with multiple blogs?

It's a difference in the way that Movable Type and blojsom implement the MetaWeblog API.

I can get it to work with MT, but then I think I'll have problems with the category posting, as from what I can work out, MetaWeblog API doesn't really have a 'post entry with this category' function, and instead blojsom and other blog servers have used the 'blogid' field to represent the category.

I fear to try and put an ahref in this site, so if you go to this page:

http://staff.cofa.unsw.edu.au/blojsom/blog/nigelkersten/scripts/2005/06/11/RapidMetaBlog_Future_Direction.html

I'm looking for suggestions from people as to what they'd like to see in v2.0. I'll be implementing other blogging APIs, not just MetaWeblog, so I'll do proper blogger and MT API support.

I'd like to add one more feature request: How about adding html tag buttons, a la Live Widget (the one for LiveJournal blogs)? At least for bold, italics, underline, link, blockquote, and list.
Other than that, I'm pretty happy with this widget. It works fine on my WordPress blog, I just would like adding tags to be quicker and more convenient.

I might have tag buttons in the next version. Just finished moving house, so will sort the outstanding issues as soon as I've unpacked all the boxes...

so many boxes....
