Shopping - Dashflix

Description: If you're like me, you are both obsessive and a Netflix customer. This combination leads to constantly double-checking what's in your queue and what has been shipped to you. Now you can engage in this psychotic behavior from the comfort of your own desktop!

The Dashflix widget gives you a list of your "At Home" movies, complete with estimated delivery dates. Flip it over, and you'll see all the movies in your queue. Click on any movie to bring up Netflix's summery of the film in question.

Version 0.9 fixes a minor bug where the queue would not be updated if there were no movies in the "at home" list (thanks to Michael Rabkin for the bug report). This new version also take up less hard drive space (thanks to Rob Speed).

Great start! Any chance you would consider making the widget smaller? Keep up the good work!

This is another one of those widgets that makes me say "someone beat me to it."

Great idea for using the envelopes as the "canvas" but that envelope really eats up a lot of space! On my 12" PowerBook, it takes up about 1/6 of the screen. Yikes.

I'd like to make a couple more comments but I don't want to seem negative and bring "skia" down. smiley

Yeah. A quick look at the other widgets I've made reviles a similar quirk woven through all of them: they were made on a 1920x1200 display.

I do feel for you 12" PowerBookers out there. In fact, I own one myself! But when taking a first stab at a widget, Photoshop gets the best of me and I just have to make them as big and beautiful as possible.

I plan to go back and make a reduced version available. It will probably be out around the time this hits 1.0.

Thanks for all the comments! Keep them coming!

This is a really cool Netflix widget, but I'm sure you've seen the other one out there, NetflixQueue (http://www.dashboardwidgets.com/showcase/details.php?wid=283). It would be nice to be able to alter your queue.

Thanks for the comments! I thought long and hard about adding the ability to manipulate the queue, log in, etc. from the widget. I finally decided such features would legally and ethically dodgy.

It's one thing to redisplay static information in a more convenient format. It's a whole other thing to actually replace a corporation's interface for accessing their databases. I wouldn't feel comfortable moving ahead with such additions without a contract from Netflix or counsel from a lawyer smiley

Hi there

I appreciate the ingenuity shown in using the "open along the edge" yellow bar to provide access to the current queue, but I do think some sort of access to "settings" might be nice.

A possible feature that some of us might invaluable would be using all netflix accounts saved in keychains (such that someone who has multiple profiles can see all of the currently checked out movies on the front display). I'm not sure how the obverse (queue) display would work with multiple profiles....
