Pointless but for some reason I like it smiley

I never thought of this but the moment I saw it in my DashboardWidgets widget I had to get it. Now I can't do without it.

goes well with the apple sticker on my desk.

I too felt oddly compelled to download this even though it does nothing. Good idea!

EXCELLENT - we just need the old Apple puzzle now - oh and the Map control panel! Aqua apples would be cool though!

Doesn't do anything but I really like it smiley

This is giving my hula girl a dance for her money! (by the way - this really should be a 1 for functionality, but it wins brownie points for being so cool.smiley )

This is not only the one non-functionable widget I have on my dashboard, but also the thing that makes my Tiger experience complete - thank you! smiley

Dude, that is a frickin' cool widget. But being me I just _had_ to tinker with it. Using

1. Switching code from that awesome X-Wing widget

2. Fading "i" code from that awesomer Wikipedia widget

3. Images from Rick Patrick of VanillaSoap (from his lickable Apple Logo icon set)

and, of course,

4. The idea, and much of the code from the original Apple Logo widget.

If any of the above entities object to my use of their code/ideas/images, then I will lock up this file and never again show it, but if ya' all don't mind I've got the widget on my own site. You can download it at this url, as long as the original widget creator doesn't mind me doing that.

http://www.techtronik.net/Apple%20Logo.zip

I'm not going to post the widget on DBW because it was not my idea and would draw traffic away from this widget, which was the original.

Anyway, sorry for the long post and thanks for this fantastic widget!

Yes, I would highly recommend putting in more kinds of Apple logos, like the aqua, tiger, and brushed metal ones.

Anyhoo, cool widget. Zero functionality, but it adds to my collection of image widgets very nicely. I already have butterflies and a whole fleet of X-wings. smiley

The only thing that can be improved, like I said before, are the different kinds of Apple logos you have available.

This is the only widget on my dashboard without a function. I like the white apple a lot, so do not need additional widgets like the other posters above, but would love if I could change the size of the apple. I would love to be able to make it larger, or shrink it, depending on my needs at the time and the available free space in my dash. Thanks.

It's just… perfect!

Posted by: sergey on May 31, 05 (5:34 AM) for version 1.0 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

I Just Love it...

Try to
add more different kinds of logos;
add the option to change the size of the widget;
add some option to center the widget on the screen and to prevent it from moving.

Thanks for this wonderful widget

Oops, it's not that perfect. It would be really perfect if it could remember which side of the apple was open.

Just what we all need, I love it like I love my Mac.

Definitely go for different skins though.

Very cool widget. I love looking back at the classic Apple logo, it brings together my whole dash. Resizing would be nice, and maybe more skins.

this is the most pointless widget i have ever seen. but it will never leave my dashboard.

nice work!

Posted by: mdc on Jun 08, 05 (8:28 AM) for version 1.0 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

i forgot to mention, if you want it centered, click on the icon, don't drag it out of your widgets. click on it, and drops to the center of your screen.

Great update. You fixed any problems that it previously had. I love having the other older logos, its a nice throwback to my old iMac. The info button makes this very convenient. Nice job.

Yep - doesn't do anything except take up realestate. And, that's just fine! Thanks!

Love the new styles! Great job!

Love it. I have four running— Lime, brushed metal, tiger stripes, classic. Great dashboard space-waster.

Nice widget! once i saw it, i had to have it. but... there are so many different looks, there should be an option or something that flips through each one about once an hour or something.

Posted by: modcaveman on Jun 12, 05 (11:36 AM) for version 1.1 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

Why would one need a widget like this... I don't get it. As far as I see it this is just waste of space.

Re: Why would one need a widget like this, etc.

Ars gratia artis.

Posted by: sprindle on Jun 13, 05 (4:30 PM) for version 1.1 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

Well, art should be definitely created for arts sake but honestly this is a collection logos and not original artwork. I think that is just the problem with these decorative widgets. They are plagiarising original art work and not creating new one.

Posted by: Bing on Jun 14, 05 (11:49 PM) for version 1.1 (previous version)

Hi Bing - thanks for checking out my widget and leaving feedback. I made this widget as I'm a little too Apple obsessed and needed it on my dashboard smiley I also like to reminisce of logos gone by. I did make all the graphics myself in Photoshop, although they're obviously based on existing desings... (Saying that, the Tiger fur is my own amazingly highly creatively artistic creation - check it out!) Best wishes, Rich

...just need the resizing option!

It serves no purpose other than to sit on the screen - but it does it so prettily! I second modcaveman's suggestion though, there should be an option to cycle through all the images, randomly or in order.

Y'know, this and the Star Wars widget are the only picture widgets I know that don't get flamed mercilesslysmiley Nice one...

This is the only decorative widget I like. Bold, defined, clear, nice size, and all that, although the design is credited to Apple (duh).

I put a white one in the center of the Dashboard. This looks pretty schweet when calling up the Dashboard or sending it away, especially if you use shift+F12. My second favorite is the Classic look, although I never use it.

My only annoyance is that there aren't very many settings that make for a bold, solid logo. I'm talking solid colors, like the white one (except with black, red, etc.) Or graphical styles, like sketched, wire frame, etc., which would also be neat, although lack the definition of solid colors.

Going along with that, the "Brushed" setting has a very bright stripe, and I would rather see less extreme gradiation for a more solid, throughout look. I like brushed metal, but this one looks like brushed metal with a flourescent light directly above it, if you know what I mean.

A non-brushed metal mimicking the aluminum powerbook shell would be schweet, but one would have to be careful designing such because it is difficult to make it look real enough.

Eternal thanks for the white one though. Powerful logo, it is.

I love it, but the latest version doesn't remember my last choice anymore.

I'll have to sort out the save prefs function when I get a chance... until then, the old version is still available at http://tinyurl.com/d2y9e
