This is a great widget, but just too huge. iBooks don't have much screen real estate and it takes up one sixth of the screen. I'm sure on a high resolution screen it doesn't seem all that big, but try and use it on a 1024 x 768 screen.

That's a good point. It'll have to stay that large to make it usable if the controls got smaller it'd be too clutered, but I've been toying with the idea of making it shrink, like Apple's Weather widget does.

I love it! I am not one for blogging or anything like that because I don't like going through the whole log in process. I prefer just having to open a program and typing. This is that program for LiveJournal. Nice work guys!
Yes, it is kind of big, but my iBook is a 500 MHz and doesn't really like having too many widgets anyway. So, once again, nice work, keep it up!

This is great, but there's one thing missing: I can't select which user picture to use for a post. Other than that it's just about perfect. And, yeah, adding a drawer for the actual entry would be pretty slick.

The best LJ wdiget yet! I agree it's to big, but you're right, clutter sucks. I say make it stretch open (or to more options) and shrink back when no using it. ala Weather Widget.

I look forward to your updates smiley

This is great! Wish there was something like this for Movable Type! smiley

Don't forget OS X can check your spelling for you, you just need to know how to turn it on. If you control-click (or right-click if you have a two button mouse) in the main entry area you get a contextual menu that has a Spelling sub-menu. Choose 'Check Spelling as You Type' and from that moment on you LiveJournal entries will be checked in the usual way, red underlines for mistakes.

This widget would be great, but as others have mentioned, it is simply too big. I do not have enough screen real estate to keep it in my Dashboard, and adding it to the Dashboard and then removing it everyime I want to post is simply too much trouble. Easier just to go to the website.

My recommendation, check out the Calvin and Hobbes widget. If your LJ widget could be shrunk down to a little bar and then unshrunk when I wanted to use it (just liek the Calvin and Hobbes one does), then it would be perfect, and it would definately have a place on my Dashboard,

Picture support and spell check support would also be nice, but do some sort of quick and easy minimizing thing first. Until you do that, it is simply too big to be usable.

Minimising is there already, see the screen shot at the top of this page. Click the arrow to the side of the title bar, it works just like the one in the Finder. If the arrow is horizontal then the widget is in its minimised state. Press it once and the widget will expand.

Spell checking is taken care of by OS X. Control-click in the text area and use the pop-up menu to turn on spelling checking 'as you type'

As for image support, if you click the 'Image' button, it will paste in the appropriate HTML tag for you to insert an image link (i.e. <img src="http://www.website.com/imagename.jpg" width="" height="" alt="">smiley, which is the same format used by LJ.

This widget just gets better and better. Keep up the good work Craig.

This is not the same thing as the pull down menu for user icons. As it stands, if I want to use something other than my default icon, I have to go in and edit the entry after the fact, which makes this widget-- while cool and the best one written yet-- useless to me otherwise. I'd happily trade the html buttons for a user icon menu. I can write my own html tags just fine.

"user icons" are on their way, check back for the next version this weekend.

I'll not be getting to it this weekend, but I promise a new version is in the works

I like the shrinking! But, where are the custom friends-groups for posting? I can't see them.

Looking forward to having user icon choices…
Also, any chance of tags support?

Just to report that I did find the custom friends-groups (the problem was that I hadn't waited long enough for it to the widget to log me into livejournal).

And since we have tags now, I'm using it all the time!
