Miscellaneous - The Obfuscator

Description: Studies say 97% of spam (no, not Spamô) happens because you posted your email address to a web page somewhere...The Obfuscator to the rescue! The Obfuscator converts your email address into an encoded string that spambots can't read, but web browsers and email programs can! For convenience, your obfuscated string is automagically copied to the clipboard.

Mmmmm... spam, oh so tasty! Actually very handy way of cutting back on the spam. There are websites out there that will do this for you, but if you often post your email address online this is a life (and time) saver.

Good idea, but my guess is that spambots will figure out how to read it anyway.

Such a pessimist. smiley

Anyway, I haven't tried it out yet, but I'm hoping it will benefit me greatly. I give it 5 stars for functionality because I can't see any bugs, and it deals effectively with a common problem. Four stars for design since it's actually kind of ugly.smiley Five for creativity since no one else has made one.

Thanks for the high ratings, folks!

Yes, SiliconX, it's possible the spambots will figure out how to read encoded email addresses, but I haven't heard of that having happened yet. I think there is little incentive for them to do this since so many email addresses are available that are not encoded and so few are encoded. When you're out to harvest 100 million email addresses, why bother reworking your software to catch another 1,000 or even 10,000?

Awesome widget. Great idea to cut back on spam effectively and easily. Only thing is it could use a nicer, Mac-like look, and maybe make it a little smaller.

Thankyou for such a great and very useful tool, As well as email addresses, it also obfuscates the ocassional word here and there on my site I don't want people to find me by.
