Date & Time - iCal Todo

Description: Displays the iCal todo items, sorted as they are in iCal. Unlike other todo widgets, this does not require iCal to be open in the background.

Designed to fit with Ben Kazez\' excellent iCal Events widget.

Version: 1.7b
New in v1.7b: * visual appearance improved

Beautiful!!! This sits right underneath my Apple Calender Widget and the iCal Events widget. Great Work!

I spoke to soon, it stopped working. Shrug

Good start! Needs the due date for the items in the widget, though ^^

Posted by: lainsnavi on Jun 06, 05 (5:54 AM) for version 1.0b (previous version)

this one is going to be great but, it still shows stuff that I deleted and didn't update when I changed calendars for a todo. I still like it though!!!

We need localizing possibilites!

update lag is a known problem - for some reason iCal does not update it's todo index immediately. i am rewriting my widget to manually search each calendar to eliminate this problem

I miss a way to uncheck it and to load it in iCal.

doesn't work for me :-(
it shows nothing

Posted by: Vicelow on Jun 07, 05 (12:16 PM) for version 1.1b (previous version)

Shows nothing for me either. Maybe there's a problem with (multiple) nested calendars?
Anyway the following features would be nice (besides it working for the first time of course smiley )
- support for multiple calendars (selectable)
- being able to mark it done
- being able to show the due dates

I think it'd be awesome once it works..

This is a great idea that really excited me, but it won't load any of my To-Do's. I don't know how other people on this page got it working. =/

sorry - looks cool only in that it matches the ical widget - i wish someone like tossen would design a cal and to do widget.... anyways this one doesn't work for me either - let's hope you can get it straightened out though as i am sure many people would use it.

Posted by: sodyPop on Jun 08, 05 (2:21 AM) for version 1.1b (previous version)

Simple fact : doesn't work at all.
Wether iCal is lanched or not, it doesn't display any of my todo's.
Too bad smiley

Is that due to the fact i'm not running OSX in english ?

still doesn't work for me - bug not fixed

Posted by: sodyPop on Jun 08, 05 (5:14 PM) for version 1.5b (previous version)

Hello!

It stays white on my System, too...

But I think I know why; if you enable iCal to show the Birthdays from the addressbook, you get another Folder with that strange encoded name in the Application Support/iCal/ -directory, _BUT_ there is no "corestorage.ics" in there. I guess that might be the Problem, but thats just a guess. smiley

alert(rawData) gives me "/Users/xyxy/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources/NTHOEUOE-956D-4F86-B34C-7AF3AOEUOEUOO.calendar/corestorage.ics (No such file or directory)"

Posted by: SanHolo on Jun 08, 05 (5:15 PM) for version 1.5b (previous version)

MMh. Very odd. With the old version I had them shown up, by sorting them manually. With this Version, it shows nothing, no matter which sort method is applied

also doesn't work for me either. shurg. I would love this widget if it worked though

Posted by: xlax999999 on Jun 09, 05 (5:30 AM) for version 1.5b (previous version)

Still doesn't work for me either, despite the supposed fix. In the last version I had no To Do items but I did have a scroll bar, now I have no To Do items and no scroll bar. If I turn of the birthdays calendar, the scroll bar comes back, but still no To Do items. Real bummer too, I look forward to a more reliable version!

Also, shouldn't it be iCal To Do rather than iCal Todo?

Posted by: robotspacer on Jun 09, 05 (6:38 AM) for version 1.5b (previous version)

I'm getting a blank window - no to do lists. Does this widget have issues with multiple calendars within the same iCal database? I have over 10 calendars with To Do items for each calendar.

Posted by: darkstream on Jun 09, 05 (9:53 AM) for version 1.5b (previous version)

Works quite well for me. However, I came across one glitch. Threw me off a little. I have a due date for something on 6/20, but it came up as 6/2E. Other than that, it's quite useful for me ^^

Posted by: lainsnavi on Jun 10, 05 (3:19 PM) for version 1.5b (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

It works great for me.

I think that older calendar files created from an iCal 1.5 or before create problems for iCal Todo and iCal Events.

Could you please have it distinguish between completed to do's and yet-to-be completed ones (or just not list the completed ones)?

Thanks.

Great work with 1.7 and getting stuff to finally show up from my To Do items smiley

One issue though: currently it shows ALL of my To Do items. That includes every To Do I have ever created since a couple of years back sorted with the oldest items first and the ones w/o dates last.

I would like it to only show To Do's which have NOT been completed. Until then it isn't really usable since the current items get lost.

Great work otherwise!

Still no To Do data.

I have 13 calendars. I've tried one at a time, all off, all on, etc. FYI, five of the calendars are published on my WebDAV server. Four of the calendars update from the internet. I hotsync with my Zire regularly. I have a first gen iMac 17", 1GB of memory, 2 external Firewire drives, and I like the color blue.

I have no idea if ANY of that info will help you, but I thought I'd offer it just in case. I'd really like this widget to work for me.

Still doesn't work for me. I have two calendars and it is definitely not showing the tasks I have assigned to one of those calendars.

Shame because I would really like to use this widget.

If there is anything I can do to help debug this, please email me directly.

Works fine for me. However, the i button seems to disappear when you hover over it. It works, but it just starts to fade away when you hover over it.

Hi:

There are two main criticisms I have on this widget:

(1) My ToDo list is usually long (about 10 ToDo's).
Therefore it would be nice to have a larger widget,
which shows all the ToDo's, so that one does not have to scroll down all the time to see the hidden ToDo's.
The best thing would be a resizeable widget.

(2) The widget shows only the beginning of the ToDo text followed by some dots (...). It would be good to have the full text shown in the Widget.

Both points are realized in the R2ToDo Widget (except the resizing possibility), but I do not like so much the design of R2ToDo. I know, Mac Users are very demanding... smiley

Cheers, Andreas

it would be good if you could add to-dos too.

Posted by: nathanjmass on Jun 16, 05 (1:20 PM) for version 1.7b (current version)

I docked a star from design for one reason--it's not resizeable! It should be, so I can make the size match that of my iCal and iCal Events widgets.
But functionality--ugh...how about the ability to mark a todo as complete...and the issue with update lag has been acknowledged-I'm looking forward to that one being fixed. So I docked a star for each of these issues from the functionality rating. All in all, this one's got alot of potential. I really look forward to seeing it improve!

I've found that with 1.7 I can get it to work if I turn off the birthday calendar in iCal and then refresh it (command-R). I can't get it to work at all with the birthday calendar on... It tells me there are no to do items. 1.7b didn't help.

Now it only shows one bar per item, even if the priority is set higher in iCal.

Resizable would be great. Being able to check of items would be great. Even better if I can add them too.

Once it is working reliably for me, I would be happy to make a donation. Do you have a PayPal account?

I really want to use this widget, especially considering how nice it'd blend in with iCal events, but I'm going to stick with DoBeDo for now, because it shows priorities correctly and lets me check off and view detailed info on todo items. Add editing features, resizability, and priorities, and no iCal user will be able to resist this.

like it a lot but it shows completed items...would like to see that be an option that could be turned off. Also, it would cool to be able to drag the bottom right corner like i cal events.

Could you fix your versioning information please. The widget shows the version as 1.7, while on here it is 1.7b. Thankyou.

Great widget but it needs some tweaks.
First of all there is a date bug. Could be a localization bug. I show my 30/09/2005 as January 30th 2005. Should be September right? smiley Then it would be great if there was settings for refresh time, show completed events, tick of event and change priority. Need help?

Is this widget being worked on currently? I hope so, because I think it has the most potential amongst all the To Do widgets out there... it's the most compact and graphically pleasing. It just needs to include some of the excellent suggestions and tweaks listed above!

Can you make it where we can ADD an event? That would make it perfect. I'm using a BackPackIt widget instead until this gets that feature.

Posted by: Liquidrums on Aug 31, 05 (8:23 PM) for version 1.7b (current version)

I don't know if it does this for every month, but all of my todos this month (september) show up as January, which changes even the day of the week. This widget is totally useless if it is misleading, so I hope you fix this soon, because the design is quite good. Further, I don't think it is necessary for most users to have the year on every todo. In fact, I would like something like Monday, Sept 26 rather than the big long one.

Please get the thing to display the correct dates, and maybe display them better? This widget has such great design, if only it worked right.

Posted by: BagOfHammers on Sep 25, 05 (1:10 PM) for version 1.7b (current version)

This widget does not work for me. It says I have no todo items when really I have several. R2Dtodo shows them but not this widget.

Widget works for me and has a small form factor which I like. Priority bars don't work, however. Just one for each item, no ghosted place holding bars as depicted on this page. I wish I could launch iCal with a double click on an item. However, I LOVE the fact that you just read the iCal database without iCal running. R2ToDo keeps iCal running at all times, which I found annoying.

Hope you'll continue to develop this widget.

Posted by: darkstream on Jul 26, 06 (6:21 AM) for version 1.7b (current version)   View Detailed Rating

After trying your widget out for a bit, I would remove a star from my rating if I could. Your widget doesn't sort the to do items in any fathomable order that I can see. At the very least it should default to sorting by date or mirroring the sorting used in iCal, if not offer me sorting options. In addition, items with no due date shouldn't be listed above items with due dates. That's just basic behavior for To Do lists, no?

This widget is so close to being useful to me but for now is not. I encourage you to spend some more time on it. With a little work your widget could be the standard all to do widgets adhere to.
