Interesting idea.

I'm not sure about your choice of transparency, especially that the map gets more transparent when you mouse over it... it seems counterintuitive.

Otherwise, it's good.

Very cool. I like to watch the news happenings in a certain part of the world, and this makes it much easier. The widget and the site are excellent.

One complaint: City names with spaces don't open in Safari. widget.openURL is really picky.

Oh, one more thing, would you consider showing all locations on the main page? Possibly as a user setting... To see the locations below the top ten, I have to click on one of the top tens, which brings up the articles for that city. Maybe even a 'show all' link would be better. OK, I'm getting picky.

Buzztracker is my new favorite news site. Very nice Craig, and the rest of CMP.

A collapsed state would be cool, just showing the map with a little button to expand to the full view.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

As for locations with spaces throwing off widget.openURL -- that's one bug I haven't been able to clean up. If anyone knows a good solution, feel free to shoot it over.

Try this:

Change your widget.openURL()'s that involve a space to something like this:

widget.system('/usr/bin/open', null);

You'll have to set the AllowSystem key in your Info.plist file, of course.
