now we are talking! widgets should have functionality that makes something you would normally do less tasking. here is a perfect example, toss in a nice u.i. and you have widget perfection. kudos speap - looking forward to more.

I can't get this widget to work. I put in my zip code and hit enter, on either the front or the back, and it does not load any information. I live in Concord NH, 03301, and there are 2 theatres in town. Showtime widget had results for me, but unfortunately the developer of that widget disappeared with the widget.

Also the text on the front of the widget was so small I could hardly see it. I dont know how it would have looked if I got results however.

Fandango.com is currently doing site maintenance.

Posted by: speap (developer) on Jun 08, 05 (5:24 AM) for version 0.2b (current version)

It worked for me once (the interface needs serious help, btw -- font way too small), and then I re-input my zip code and... nothing. It just hangs on "loading..." The actual website Fandango.com works without difficulty.

This could be really cool -- it'd be nice if the window was resizeable too.

Can't wait for a working version with a better-looking interface that has a font size that's actually readable.

Font is too small but great widget.

Works in CANADA too.

Suggestions:

-Bigger, brighter text

-Clicking on specific times brings you to movietickets.com page where you can buy tickets for what you have selected.

That would be awesome.

Very good start though.

hi all,

i designed this widget for my friend speap. i wanted to use a 10 pt lcd font but os x smooths out fonts and i didn't want people to set 10- fonts to non be smoothed or else most webpages and interfaces would look crappy, so i went with the silkscreen font and made the widget smaller. i could use images for each letter but that would take the widget to load forever and increase the size of the widget +++

thanks,
pat

Cripes that font is small. I can't begin to read the text on my 20" display (1600x1200). Try something readable next time please.

Also, it didn't come up with half of the theatres in my neighborhood. A better widget is probably http://www.dashboardwidgets.com/showcase/details.php?wid=589 which uses Yahoo Movies as its source. I prefer the interface as well.

Ack, to use the widget properly, and for it to look right. you have to turn Font Smoothing in System Preferences to 8px. This will make the font crisp like in the picture. I wasnt aware of this factor when making the widget, but I'll try and find a way to make it work.

Your widget doen't work. I click on the movie and it just says "more movies" on the top and it never loads the movie times!

Type is so tiny it breaks up badly on screen as to be unreadable. This is a fairly new iMac G5 running Tiger with no change to the fonts since installation.

Functions just fine when first loaded. Exit Dashboard and come back, it goes into an infinite loop of "loading".

For anyone who's having display problems:

1. Download and install <a href="http://www.kottke.org/plus/type/silkscreen/">Silkscreen</a> for free.

2. Turn font smoothing <b>off</b> for font sizes 8 and smaller.

This is one of the best movie widgets I've found so far, but why-oh-why can't we get something like the old sherlock channel??? How hard is that??? (i honestly wouldn't know). But I'd love to be able to search by movie too, not just by theater. RADmovie times sort of does that, but it's buggy.

It's cute like the Real Cinemas display board but the font looks wicked small. Impossible to read.
