Date & Time - Looking Forward

Description: You have iCal to track meetings for work and other boring stuff. This widget tracks things you are actually looking forward to and keeps them in a handy window on your dashboard. Track events in multiple windows, minimize to show only the next event. See other uses and tips at http://www.drunkenhalo.com/LookingForward

Great concept but I can't figure out how you add more than one event -- or at least maximize the widget so that more than one even is displayed.

Yeah, just click the info button and you'll be able to add an event. It's only when there are no events that the "Click to add an event..." button shows up. And if you did figure out how to add another but it didn't show up, make sure you entered the date correctly (mm/dd/yyyy). Otherwise it won't show up.

Other than the fact that the only items I've entered are "work tomorrow" "work the next day," "work the day after that," (etc...) ... this widget rocks hardcore.

crazybob... What countries does this widget work for? Does it cover UK releases?

Posted by: philk on Jun 22, 05 (11:12 AM) for version 1.0 (previous version)

philk, this widget just tracks whatever you type in, it doesn't do any kind of lookup for release dates. That would be cool though smiley

Several needed improvements:

* Make the links bold instead of underlined, underlined makes it look really bad.

* Change the color, this color resembles mold on a pizza slice which has been out in the rain for 5 weeks. *uugh*. Make it black please.

* Look up release dates.

BUGS:

When I close the dashboard while in 'input mode' to look up a date, and go back to the dashboard, half of the widget has dissapeared, and nothing works, I have to close it, which sucks.

Coming from the closing, why does it delete the prefs when closing the widget?! I entered almost 10 things, had to close it for once and BOOM, everything was gone. That sucks. Please fix it.

Boramor, I don't like the color either. My photoshop skills are limited, but let me see what I can do. If anyone wants to take my images and alter them please feel free.

I would add a release date lookup feature if I could find an xml-based web service for it. If you know of one let me know.

I'm aware of the "half missing" bug, I'll have a fix out for it shortly.

In order to have different settings for different instances of the widget it was necessary to tie the preferences to each instance. This means that when you "close" a widget the preferences are lost. I did that intentionally, but I'll bet I can find a better way to do that. I'll see what I can come up with.

I posted version 1.1 with the following fixes on my web site:
* choose from black, blue or green background
* choose to underline or bold events with urls
* "half missing" preferences bug fixed

dashboardwidgets.com is giving me errors when I try to update the widget. I have contacted the site about this.

Thanks! Really appreciate this.
But well, it means I'll have to enter all my events again :-(

Oh well, better get to it!

I'm working on a fix to make events persist even when the widget is closed.

Well, we got one now smiley

Thanks for the work!

Really nice widget. It'd be really nice to have a localization though.

Another thing that would be great, is an option that would let you switch between an all day countdown (i.e. event is 345 days away) and the current format with the months.
Thanks for making this. smiley
