Does what it says, but I'm not really in need of a flag on my desktop. Plus the one for New Zealand isn't great anyway.
- points on design for having such a thick border around it.

I don't like the border. Can I recommend having no border at all? Maybe a small shadow instead, like my other widgets?

Thank you very much for removing the border...I feel it looks much better.

I might just make a whole UN display on my Dashboard. Maybe. But these are a nice size now, and have good looks too. Very well made for what they do.

My only suggestion now is to go along with my above idea, include a UN flag...and more flags is always great, although you've got an admirable selection. Very nice to see this kind of is quite near perfect for what it does.

Great widget!

Can I make a request? The round shadow around the settings "i" in the top-right corner of the flag shows even when your mouse isn't over the widget. This detracts from the look of the flag.

Can you make the settings button's behavior more like other widgets, where there is no sign of it at all unless you move your mouse over the widget?

Other than that it's pretty much perfect!

I missed a couple minor bugs, is what I think they are, anyway...

Sometimes, as dbj1000 says, the little shadow thing does stay, although you can get rid of it by moving your cursor to and from the widget...It also is hard to do in the first place.

One more thing though, which I think is more important. As above, I have indicated that some users (if there are other goofs like meself), may put a bunch of these flags on the Dash. This quickly becomes a problem, however, because once the dash is closed or I shut down the computer, and then restart it, the widget does not keep memory of the flag(s), and instead loads the <none> view, the one saying to please choose a flag. It's annoying with just one, but imagine if you have 2, 3, or 50.

I presume this is relatively easy to fix, but it is rather major because it will discourage users that want to have the flag(s) on the Dash all the time.

It really does look nice now, though. Just a couple minor things. That reload problem, I'd think, though, should be pretty urgent.

A suggestion of a source for flags:
Flags of the World has a LOT of flags. Not just national flags but flags for languages like the international language of Esperanto, flags like the UN and Olympic flags, even fictional flags like flags from Star Trek and the like! It's like a Wikipedia devoted entirely to flags. If you use the link I posted above (which is not a mirror, it's the master site) the number of flags you could have in a library would be nearly limitless. Alternately, find a way to let the user build their own library.

Thanks for the comment. I not sure how to handle the preference for multiple copies of the widget, but I will investigate. As for the shadow on i, I will fix it in the next iteration. I know about the Flags of the World site, just don't like their copyright stuff. The world fact book stuff from CIA is in public domain.

I think there's a key called "AllowMultipleInstances" that needs to be set to TRUE or YES. That should do it.

What have you done in v1.2???

That can't really be the "correct aspect ratio", can it?! It looks absurd and stretched now.

If this is "correct" then would you please tell me where I can download the old version of your widget? I certainly won't be keeping flags in my Dashboard with this new aspect ratio!

Thats the aspect ratio of the original pictures from the site. If you want v1.1, it is available at

I guess I could have looked inside to find the source of the flags, but Serbia and Montenegro is missing, even though (to which one is taken when clicking on a flag) lists it (and its flag). I love the idea for my kids, for whom this would be very useful, but it would be nice to make the flags a little larger. Anyhow - a nice idea, and I look forward to Serbia and Montenegro!

The yellow on Germany's flag is too light. Is Libya's flag really just a green rectangle?? Nepal's flag is cut off at the bottom.

Ian: Not sure what happen to your widget, those flags are there!

Also, the flags are download real time from CIA fact book, I do not control the picture.

Yes, Libya's flag is just a green flag!!! Great Britain is under United Kingdom. Yes, Nepal is cut off. It will be fixed in the next version.

Don't bother with a Serbia & Montenegro flag in V1.5 - While it's still not working, the two nations have split and both have their own flag (in the CIA factbook and all)

Hmm. Looks like 1.4 is broken. When's 1.5 out? Can't do without my Union Jack!
