Very nice design, but I do second the request for POP3 mail support with Mail.app. Nice work!

Very nice! One suggestion: give options for audio alert, eg alert sound, user mp3 file, etc. Will follow up with e-mail to developer.

Ya same stuff as Earthsaver I'm guessing.

Hi, there! Thanks for the feedback and positive reviews. I'll look into POP3 support. Right now Apple Mail is my highest priority. =)

I'll follow up with those of you having connection problems offline.

Wishlist: .Mac mail and POP3 mail; multiple accounts in one widget, with the account the mail is from displayed as well. I have 5 accounts coming into my Mail.app, and it'd be great if there was a fast way of checking which account the mail I've just received is in (as some are far more pressing than others). But overall, good work! This is one of the best mail widgets to date.

Thanks for the suggestions, Becky. We'll keep multiple accounts in mind for the next version. Showing the recipient account is a good idea. It will probably mean one less line for the message snippet, though. --Ed

Very clean & attractive design, and useful too!
Looking forward to your update w/ .Mac Mail support.
Keep up the good work!

Posted by: novis on Jul 13, 05 (4:49 AM) for version 1.0 (previous version) View Detailed Rating

O ya i forgot. Just a sugestion. The newest mail should be #1 and the oldest is the biggest number. That would be better I think.

Posted by: novis on Jul 13, 05 (4:51 AM) for version 1.0 (previous version)

Novis, thanks for the positive feedback! Re: message order, I'd be interested in hearing what others think. Is there a preference for having new messages come in on the left or keeping it the way it is?

Very good widget, the only one able to work with gmmail for me.
But how can you set a picture for contacts ? I'haven't found anything in gmail, so is it is Mailpop that you've set it ?

Posted by: Pampelune on Jul 29, 05 (11:11 AM) for version 1.1 (previous version) View Detailed Rating

You set the picture in the Mac's Address Book application. MailPop looks up an e-mail in Address Book. If it finds a picture, that's what's displayed. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

i cant get the picture to show. it is in my address book
Any ideas why?

After trying out the other Gmail widgets, have finally settled on this one. Suggest having the widget automatically collapse when there are no new messages being displayed...

I got it working. excellent widget . its a keeper

A very nicely designed proffesional looking widget. It looks great, works great, and is great. A few problems/criticisms:

1) Make the widget capable of tracking multiple email addresses in the same instance of the widget. I have two emails and it would be a lot more conviient to have the widget do both of them, then to have two instances of the widget open.

2) If you add .Mac support, then it will cover both of my email adresses (.Mac and Gmail), however, why not just add general POP support? It's been done (the widget is called POP) and then you would open your widget to everyone.

Works great with gmail - .mac functionality does not work in new version.

Posted by: boulderlaw on Jun 16, 06 (10:52 PM) for version 2.0 (current version)

Hi ArcherCricket,

1) Thanks for the suggestion. This is tricky to get right, but we'll look into it.

2) We added .Mac support first because users were clamoring for it. However, rest assured that general IMAP and POP support are in the works.

Some users have reported .mac support not working in corporate environments. If .mac access through Mail.app is not available at your workplace, MailPop won't work either. (Some companies block access to IMAP servers.)

We'll be adding an error message that makes this more clear.

Posted by: techmec (developer) on Jun 19, 06 (9:32 PM) for version 2.0 (current version)

This looks like a great idea. Would it be possible to add the ability to delete a message (or messages) on the mail server without having to download it? Mailticker has this functionality, but it doesn't preview the content of the email.

This widget is very useful for me when I'm at work. There's just one request I have. If the account is .mac and you click on a new email, it opens up the Mail application. However, at work, I have Mail set up for only my work emails. It'd be great if there was an option to have it send you to the .mac webmail page in your default web browser instead of Mail.
