News & Blogs - News Reader

Description: Always know what's happening around the world with News Reader, the new Dashboard widget that lets you easily view RSS news from any number of sources in a single widget. You can zip through headlines and summaries using just the arrow keys.

RSS is the same standard used by Safari RSS and many other news-reading applications. Most news sites and blogs have RSS feeds that let you see news headlines and summaries in News Reader.

Features
- Unlimited number of feeds. Unlike other widgets, News Reader can display as many feeds as the user wishes.
- Complete summaries. News Reader displays complete news summaries, not just headlines.
- Streamlined navigation. You can zip through headlines and summaries without leaving the arrow keys.

FINALLY a general purpose RSS widget! Thank you, bkazez!

I'll have to give this a qualified recommendation at the moment. I like the interface quite a bit. You've managed to fit a lot of functionality into a compact space while keeping it easy to "grok" and use. That said, it looks a little rough around the edges and I can't comment on the functionality yet as I've only just used it for a few minutes.

In any case, GREAT START! I'll be closely following any updates you make to this promising widget!

What is rough around the edges for me is the scrollbar on the right side.. The 2nd or 3rd time I clicked into it it was locked up.. changing the feed made this scrollbar work again... but the RSS feed scroller buttons on the left side is working great and the smooth automated action is very cool, so I hope you will implement it on the right side as well.

Also I use the "graphite" OSX appearance, so when "aqua" elements show up in my software, it looks bad to me. (e.g. the plus button on the backside)

4 solid stars... great work. I think will use this.

Only one problem...I can't seem to change the name of the feed, other than that, great!

This widget is amazing. I'm defintly going to use this one. I have 3 requests.

1. To be able to rearrange the feeds in a different order.

2. To be able to rename feeds.

3. To be able to accept atom feeds.

Could you also make a black version?...
I think a lot of people want that!
other then that... Great widget!

Unfortunately, when I closed the widget and after a restart of my iMac, the preferences do not get saved. All of the feeds I entered disappeared both times and reverted to the default ones. Please fix this bug so I can say News Reader is tied with iClip Lite as the best widgets out there! Keep up the good work!

A great idea for a widget, uses a small amount of screen space very efficiently. I'd use this all the time if it worked flawlessly!

1. After a short time the individual feeds don't appear correctly in the window, eventually they disappear. they only was to get them back is quit the widget annd start it again...

2. On quiting the widget and restarting, the feeds revert to the default set.

If these 2 things could be sorted it would be fantastic.

Luxuries would be the option of a black appearance and the ability to re-order the feeds (drag and drop?)

Good work!

Very slick and polished widget! I love the fact that it's able to show full summaries for news items. The only thing I'd like to see added is some kind of resizability options. The current size is a little large for my screen, but other than that it's very well done. Keep up the good work.

You're my hero.. I now use this as my primary news reader.

The only thing I'd really like to see is a way to separate/reorganize my feeds. I just want to glance at my mac news separately from my politics/worldnews.

If you manage to implement that, I'll gladly give you my first born.

oh - and being able to alter the names of the feeds - i have two separate washington post feeds that i can't distinguish because the first 20 characters or so are identical.

use to work awesome. loved it... then it just stopped reading any RSS feed the week of 9.24.07- anyone else have this problem. "Unable to retrieve RSS news from this URL" error for every URL. bummer.
