Yes yes yes!! Thank you, I have been waiting for something like this for a long time. My recomendations for a future version: definately resizability. And another: this widget should incorporate a sort of button I would put in the corner of my dashboard, and clicking the widget would create a new instance of WidgetTerm. That would be nice because right now I have to go back to my dash dock everytime...
Good start, great!

Brilliant. I agree that this should be re-sizeable. Thanks!

Damn. This handles colours better than Apples own Terminal. Look at "man pages" in both, and you see that they are all B/W in Apple Terminal, tough TCSH shows colours just fine in Apple Terminal, go figure.

This needs to be re-sizeable, and have some kind of (thin) border so it just isn't a black square.

Widget says version .01 on the back, but .02 in finder info. That aside, I've been looking for something like this ever since I upgraded to Tiger. I usually already have multiple iTerm terminals going, it's nice to have this for "one-offs"

Noticed one interface bug. After you click on the button at the bottom to "open" the terminal window, the terminal does not gain focus, and you have to click again on the terminal window. The prompt should gain focus so after clicking the button you can use the terninal.

It got resizable, and the size was changed smaller.
And the known bugs are the version number on the back and focusing after coming back from hiding.
So, is there any other quick request that is easy enough to implement before the beta release?

By the way, I'm updating the screenshot together ever since, but somehow DashboardWidgets.com does not put it through. Does anyone have any idea why they don't approve my screenshots?

One more. When I click on the "done" button on the back, the widget is transparent when it flips back around. Clicking on the console area when it is in this state hides the dashboard. Then I have to bring the dashboard back to use the widget. If I click the hide button first the widget will become useable again (no longer transparent). Hope this makes sense.

Relating to my first comment, it would be nice if something like http://www.dashboardwidgets.com/showcase/details.php?wid=958 was developped.

Sure...

I'm considering following for the next version (hopefully released before the next month):

- set up the basic localisation part (I want to write a printf like function using shell commands and come up with an easier way of managing trasnslations)

- versioning of some kind (I'm not sure if dashboardwidgets.com's script fits GPL, but certainly it would be nice to retrieve version number from info or version plist and compare with something on the web at least - I could probably put a javascript on the web that simply returns the newest version number.)

- and yes, a button on the right hand side of the bar that is shaped plus sign, which would create another instance of WidgetTerm smiley

- If someone could implement the basic design of the back (currently has no style), it would be nice.

Keeps getting better. If you need quick access to a terminal window, this is it.

Great widget, looking forward to future releases!

Requests:
- please change the graphic for the red/green button... it kinda screws up the whole design smiley
- the ability to change background color and fontcolor
- make it optional to expand the window downwards instead of upwards

Special Thanks for gnome who sent me a new design, and Daan who sent me a new power on/off images. Now they are both committed in CVS, and will be included from the next release.

http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=143593

It would still be nice if someone could contribute the design of the back (html file too can be modified since it is not difficult to merge the changes).

Thanks.

Functional. Streamlined. Collapsible. I can't stress how important collapsibility is. So many widget designers don't include that one simple feature. Of course, having a full terminal just a f-key away is extremely convenient and powerful. I can't rave enough about it. Good work.

Great widget! Especially useful when playing dunnet, tetris, or solitaire!

Dunnet:
emacs -batch -l dunnet

Tetris:
emacs
esc+x
tetris

Solitaire:
emacs
esc+x
solitaire

I have noticed one "bug", though this might be a limit in my knowledge... I cannot use sudo in this shell. It doesn't recognize my password. I don't have the same problem with Terminal or XTerm's terminal... Am I doing something wrong, or is this a limit to widgetterm?

Posted by: darkstream on Nov 03, 05 (8:41 AM) for version 1.00 (previous version)

> It doesn't recognize my password.

Does your password use any special symbols? Can you type that symbol in and see if the widget displays it?

Either way, I didn't touch the core part of terminal functionality that derives from CocoaTechTerminal (which is based on iTerm's old codes), so there aren't much I can do easily...

Posted by: ippei (developer) on Nov 03, 05 (4:30 PM) for version 1.00 (previous version)

My only request would be that WidgetTerm could remember its position and size after each Dashboard's restart.

Truly great widget.

Personally, loved this widget. However Safari 4 install broke this widget.. not sure how, but it did. Any plans for a fix for this indispensable widget?
