I like the Idea but I don't like the fact that it has to reload the dashboard for every switch. It even reset some of my widgets, but a great idea...

unfortuantely, the only way for this widget to work is to reload the dashboard. sorry.

I first didn't knew what the colors means.

Great widget, only problem I see is you have to reload the dash, surely there is a way to do it without reloading. Can't wait to see newer versions!

I've added three new layouts, but when I click on the up/down arrow thing on the right nothing happens. It looks like there's meant o be a drop down list (yes?) but nothing happens? Am I doing something wrong?

I love it!!!! Man, this is great for me since I have a slow computer. I have one setup for having all my widgets I'd use for the fun of it and one that uses just a few that are really important for me. No more need for me to restart the dock after I'm done using the dashboard now! Thanks a bunch ^^

good widget and great idea (not to mention it's something i suggested on the forum), but there must be some way for it to reload better. can't wait for a new version.

oh yeah. forgot to mention that it killed the WORLDview widget. you should try to fix this bug, since even after i redownloaded the widget, it still didn't work.

Posted by: modcaveman on Jul 22, 05 (4:33 AM) for version 1.1 (previous version)

i don't know what you mean by 'it killed the WORLDview widget'. I have WORLDview along with MultiDash and they work fine. I doubt that MultiDash had anything to do with that problem.

I just can't make it work...When I create a new set, then I press switch, dashboard quits, and when I relunch it, and select another set, I've got the same

Did I do Anything wrong ?

Posted by: Pampelune on Jul 22, 05 (7:06 AM) for version 1.1 (previous version)

You need to create a layout and switch to another one. You are switching to the same layout you had before, resulting in no change.

Go like this:
1) Move a bunch of widgets around
2) Create a new Layout and call it something
3) Move the widgets around or bring out new ones
4) Create a new Layout for this as well
5) Switch back to the first layout.

You can have an infinite amount of layouts, I just used 2 in this example. By doing this, you should understand how the widget works. Sorry, but I thought this widget was a bit more self-explanitory than it is.

It's got some bugs man. great widget though. My main problem is that sometimes it won't switch layouts. I've always got atleast 2 presets that won't work. When I try to switch to them the layout stays the same as whatever I had open before. I've tried editing these and then 2 other ones stop working. I'm happy having 4 that do work though. So I'll just wait for the next version. Great Idea though, and good widget.

I like it, and I was watching the forum with this, but can you have a readme file? I dont understand it much. At first I had 2 layouts (I think) and there was no switch button until I reloaded the widget. What are the colored dots?

Posted by: jtbandes on Jul 22, 05 (4:17 PM) for version 1.1 (previous version)

I agree with jasonturner, I've got the same problem, it worked once, and then, not anymore...

Posted by: Pampelune on Jul 22, 05 (5:56 PM) for version 1.1 (previous version)

i like this a lot, as i am on a small screen.

i have a few comments, however.

first, to repeat, this would be better if it came with quick instructions. i was pressing buttons and nothing was happening, and i couldn't figure out why. i actually had to take the widget off the board and put it back on to get the button at the bottom with "overwrite" and "edit" and such. it took me 2 hours of playing around before i got the widget to where i wanted it. if i had a help telling me what to expect and what to look for, i could have done it in ten minutes.

second, i don't like the fact that the checkmark is on the setup you have highlighted and not the currently active setup. i know which setup i have on the pulldown, i want it to tell me where i am.

Even it's not working for me yet, It's one of the most usefull widgets I've seen so far. Thanks for that ! smiley I hope you'll have time to work on it

Posted by: Pampelune on Jul 23, 05 (8:37 AM) for version 1.1 (previous version)

I really wanna be pulling for this. But I have absolutely NO IDEA how to work this. Please, please, please, create a help file. The complete lack of instructions is so frustrating that it almost makes me want to destroy this widget. That and when I tried to switch layouts for the first time, the widget froze my computer and I had to do a hard reset. This widget is such a great idea, but the way it works is so counter-intuitive.

Posted by: orangeohm on Aug 11, 05 (1:23 PM) for version 1.1 (previous version)   View Detailed Rating

I wished there was an update to this widget.

I followed the instructions, yet it didn't swap layouts for me.

Does it matter if the dashboard icon isn't in my dock?

We need someone to adopt this little guy and get it working. I reallly want this functionality, but Multidash is just not stable in its current form. Someone come to the rescue!

I just may step in and make a new one. Let me finish up the new MyMinutes widget (the resurrected Sprint Usage Checker widget), and i'll make one of these.

The idea is superb for those of us who are addicted to collecting widgets - and it can only get worse. However, this doesn't work for me at all. It won't allow me to delete and it won't change from one set to the next. At present it's useless. However, when fixed, it can be one of the most useful. Keep at it. It certainly needs a help manual.

Love the idea too, but the screen shot shows a "Switch" button which I assume would cause it to switch to the selected Dash -- mine doesn't have said button so when I select a Dash it does nothing. :-( I will be watching for an update!

Had the same problem. Did unload the widget, then reload... the Switch button is here now and it works.
As other people said, it reloads the whole dashboard everytime.

Great idea, I have been searching for something like this for awhile. Dashboard get's way too cluttered with often used widgets.

However the new 3.0 version seems to have some serious problems. First, I cannot access the help file by typing the instructed "?". I can figure out the basics but how do you take a screenshot of the layout or load one etc. etc.? And why isn't the help file available on the developer's site?

A much more developed program that can do this and much more is Amnesty but a bit steep at $20. I'll wait to see if MultiDash gets the bugs out. Will be a very helpful widget!

Posted by: sharte on Aug 09, 06 (6:52 PM) for version 3.0 (current version)   View Detailed Rating

The ? key works fine for me -- it opens up a file in Text Edit. The only issue I am having right now is that some widgits refuse to remember their settings (Ex. the Weather Widgit that comes with OS X.) I imagine this is a problem with that widgit and NOT Multi-Dash??

Anyway, thanks for the update -- it was needed!!

Posted by: IAteacher on Aug 10, 06 (3:58 AM) for version 3.0 (current version)

Wrote previously that I had problems accessing the help file and thus learning how to use the widget. On a hunch, I tried downloading the widget through Safari and let it install the widget. Success. Apparently using another browser and manually dragging it into the widget folder prevents a proper install.

Posted by: sharte on Aug 10, 06 (7:26 PM) for version 3.0 (current version)

OK, realized the widget works because it get's installed by Safari into the USER's widget folder not the system's. So if you can't access the help file by hitting "?" check to see which widget folder it got installed into. Apparently it will not work properly at this point until it is installed in the right location.

The help file is now accessible on the developer's site as well.

it does not work
no help button
PC like in nature
nice try.......next!

radar in motion, that is a great widget.

Posted by: sbrady on Aug 21, 06 (5:16 PM) for version 3.0 (current version)   View Detailed Rating

Well I'm sorry you don't like it sbrady, but I find your reasoning irrational since

it does indeed work (and I've gotten lots of positive feedback from Apple, TUAW, The Flip Side podcast, and more),
there is indeed a help button (click MultiDash and press ? on your keyboard),
it's definitely not PC like in nature (it's responsive, Aqua-esque, and clutter free, among others),

and Radar In Motion isn't all that. Perhaps your perception of a "great widget" is thrown, considering that your enjoy Radar In Motion (which is doubtlessly "PC like in nature"smiley.

Next time, please contemplate if your feeble, shallow mind is worthy of writing a truly constructive comment before you give my product, or any product, a bad rating.

This thing is great, but it is a little buggy. It doesn't remember my configurations sometimes (and yes, I am pressing the space bar to save it). It needs work, but I will continue to use it in the meantime.

Great concept for a widget. Very useful. Am also sad to hear that it simply must restart dashboard every time. One request: if it's got to restart dashboard, could it also launch it so that the switching process is complete ? (if I'm switching dashboard presumably I want to stay in dashboard...)

Thanks !

Andre:

Would you mind posting the contents of the Help menu for those of us here who are unable to access it? Or giving us the link to a page that contains it?

I understand your defensiveness at sbrady's comment, but you respond to her comment, and yet offer no additional help to those of us here who continue to have trouble with your widget.

Any additional instructions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Such promising, great idea but looks like unfinished, though I would extensively use and praise it if not for the frequently mentioned downside - it reloads your Dock that hits webclip widgets.
Though considering the current state of negligence on part of Apple and developers rushing into iOS developing fuss obviously favoring static unambiguousness of Notification Center vs flexibility of Dashboard, not surprising it's stalled for ever. The last time updated 10 years ago even if Tiger dev cycle was far from complete! It's astounding that it managed to get to 3rd version. Sad it's no longer worked on.
