Date & Time - 24 Season Five

Description: This widget will count down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds to the season five premiere of FOX's hit series, '24'. I hope this is useful for fans of the show who cannot wait for next "longest day" in the life of Jack Bauer and CTU. (Based on the 'Sims 2 Countdown' widget released by Aspyr)

Version: 1.2b
New in v1.2b: Fixed audible 'click' at the end of the sound clip. (Thanks to 'shaker' for pointing that out... sorry!)

now that there is a widget that will countdown anything (you can give it a date to countdown to and a title) you'd think these kinds of widgets would go away...

This widget (and widgets of this class) have in their favour that they visually refer to their topic. Far more attractive, etc.

I like it a lot but it IS way too large.

I think it's two hours off from where I live (west coast)...the time zone should be adjustable.
I like the design though.

I don't have the required fonts, so it looks kinda average. Perhaps you should capture the digits in the font you have in the screen shot and distribute them as images. It would look a whole lot better if the numbers were right, instead of Times New Roman

Well, here's the thing:

There are already lots of countdown widgets out there, and for someone to simply enter a day and description in their regular countdown widget is really easy. Why should a person worry about getting a whole new widget and take up more space when they can just pull out their current countdown widget and enter the info in there?

However, the way that you set this widget up is very cool. I like the background and fonts that you used, and I like the little logo. The only thing wrong with the design is that it's too big (but you've probably heard the same thing from the other people who've posted comments). If I could use this as a general countdown widget (because I like the design of this better than most countdown widgets), I would get it, but I CAN'T modify the information, so I have no use for it.

Overall, the design is good and is very appropriate for the widget's use, but it doesn't HAVE much use, and that's the main flaw. Just apply the same creative thinking to other widgets you make and try creating something really useful. When something is eye-appealing, people will download it, so give that a shot and see if anyone will catch on to it.

Thank you for the comments. I will make a smaller version, and embed the specific fonts that I used on my system (I just found how how to do that).

I wish I could go back and make it 5/5 now. Top job on getting a smaller footprint and embedded fonts, well done.

And now I'm going to convert it to count to my own date now since series 4 hasn't even started here yet.

All in all, now that it is smaller, with the sound and the logo and the visual style, you've managed to make a decent counter for what it's for, as opposed to making "just another counter", for which, as people have mentioned, there are already user-controlled counters. This one is about as good as it gets for its specific purpose, I would say.

Maybe I'm off the mark on this one, but it just looks like it would be so neat to have the ability to minimize to the logo. I'm just not somebody who likes to be greeted with counters on dashboard...being able to minimize wouldn't hurt, and it would enable people to choose when to see it. But it is nice as it is.
